The Miami Hurricanes knocked off a vastly inferior Savannah State team 77-7 last week and improved to 3-0 on the season. The team is ranked No. 15 in the nation on the strength of a defense which was able to limit then-No. 12 Florida to just16 points in the week 2 win. The Hurricanes are not expected to have any problems with South Florida, who lost badly to Florida Atlantic last week. The 0-3 Bulls are 16.5 point underdogs at home according to college football oddsmakers at 5dimes
Miami QB Stephen Morris is a senior now and he’s looking to build on an impressive 2012 campaign in which he threw for 3,345 yards with a 58.2 percent completion ratio. This season he’s off that mark (53.6 percent thus far), but his 7.21 yards per completion and 130.6 QB rating speak to his play.
Morris’ best option in the backfield is Duke Johnson. Johnson’s rushed for 304 yards on 48 carries with an average carry of 6.3 yard.s. Gus Edwards and Eduardo Clements have also contributed for the Hurricanes in the backfield and both sport good yards per carry.
Miami won’t face their next ranked opponent until Nov 2 against Florida State, but these ACC games are crucial obviously if the Hurricanes want to contend for a conference title, if they are ruled eligible for the title.
The Bulls are just going to look to improve in this game. The team ranks near the bottom of the nation in rushing yards (129.7 per game) and passing yards (135 per game), while also giving up 34 points per game. Bobby Eveld is throwing just 36.2 percent for completion. Marcus Shaw has had success in the backfield, as the primary ball carrier (398 yards, 7 ypc).
