G.B.
Aaron Rodgers has begun the season in typical form, with his 69.4 percent completion rate and four TDs (with no interceptions), but to say Green Bay’s offensive line has protected him well would be a bit of a stretch. Rodgers has already suffered six sacks this season for a massive total loss of 47 yards. Moreover, his own rushing attempts have been largely thwarted outside of his one attempt which garnered him 15-yards.
Rodgers has gained just eight the other three attempts. Jamal Williams has done his best with spotty protection from the Packers’ OL, gaining just 3.4 yards-per-carry on his 31 rush attempts this season. Randall Cobb, Davante Adams, Geronimo Allison, and Jimmy Graham all have caught for 100-yards or better this season, though, and the quartet has four TDs between them, all of The Packers’ receiving TDs, to be clear. The onus simply relies upon the OL to provide better pass protection and create more holes for Williams, Ty Montgomery—and Rodgers, too, of course.
WASH.
The Washington Redskins are 1-1 after losing 9-21 to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2. Thus far, Adrian Peterson has been good, but he is getting frustrated with the OL and is averaging just 3.1 yards-per-carry on his 37 attempts. Peterson has had more success in his pass routes, catching five of six targeted passes for 100 yards. He has just one rushing TD, though, and no receiving TDs.
Alex Smith is throwing accurately, and he has completed 71.1 percent of his passes. The routes, however, have been a lot of short pass plays and options to the running backs, and accordingly, Smith is averaging just 7.1 yards per-pas. He has thrown two TDs and no interceptions, but Smith has been sacked six times already just like Rodgers, his counterpart this week.
Expect this game to be a bit of a defensive struggle, as both defenses seem up to the challenge of slowing the ground games of their opponents. The Redskins are averaging just 3.9 yards per-rush-attempt, at any rate, although No. 2 back Chris Thompson has been superb on his limited attempts (nine, for 66 yards).
