Florida State opened the season with a decisive 41-13 victory over Pittsburgh but took last week off. This week they’ll face a Nevada squad which is rendered 35.5 point underdogs according to college football oddsmakers.
The Seminoles lost their playmaker E.J. Manuel to the NFL, but still rank 7th in the nation in passing yards (377 per game) behind the arm of Jemeis Winston, who has completed a remarkable 25-of-27 passes (92.6%) for 356 yards.
Winston recorded four touchdowns in the week one victory and will look to do the same against a Nevada team which gave up 302 passing yards to UCLA already this season. In fact, the Wolf Pack gave up 647 total yards in that game, which again is why college football oddsmakers are rendering the game with a 64.5 over/under.
FSU is ranked No. 10 in the nation and will need a decisive victory in this to retain that place in the AP polls. The team faces in-state opponent Bethune Cookman, Boston College, and Maryland before finally facing No. 3 Clemson on October 19th.
Nevada has displayed a potent offense so far with equal attention given to the rush and pass. Cody Fajardo has completed 37-of-53 passes for 403 yards, while the Wolf Pack also have Fajardo’s rushing (142 yards on 30 carries) and Kendall Brock (39 carries, 148 yards). While this offense could possibly produce a touchdown or two, it won’t be enough, and it will require lapses on the FSU defense to allow for a big play to break open a score or two.
