Arizona steamrolled both of its first two opponents. In week one, the Wildcats shut out North Arizona 35-0 and in week two they soundly dispatched UNLV 58-13. The Wildcats are heavy favorites once again against UTSA, as college football oddsmakers set the line 25 points in favor of the host.
Arizona ranks 6th in the nation in rushing yards with 351.5 per game. The team relies heavily on the run, as QB B.J. Denker has thrown just 34 times and completed 17 for 168 yards. Denker is dual-threat, though, and ranks third on the team in rushing (134 yards). Backs Daniel Jenkins and Ka’Deem Carey both have rushed for a combined 389 yards, and Jared Baker has been effective for short yardage. Can the Arizona rush attack dominate UTSA?
The Roadrunners of C-USA won week one against New Mexico 21-13 but dropped 56-35 to No. 13 Oklahoma State. The showing was not a bad one. UTSA racked up 500-plus yards, 369 of which were passing.
QB J.W. Walsh threw 24-of-27 and Clint Cheif threw for 192 yards on 11-of-16. The pass attack could help the Roadrunners put up a score or two, but the defense is going to have its hands full with the Wildcats ground attack and that should be the deciding difference. The total of 63 is high, but given the potential of the Cats running, it could even be low.
