I really don’t understand the appeal of Tim Tebow. He’s a nice player and all, and he was a very successful college quarterback, but I don’t know why that is turning into a love affair with NFL fans unlike any other. The guy was a marginal first round pick who is only third on the Denver depth chart, and he’s far from a lock to be a long term NFL starter, never mind a star. Despite all of that, he led all players in NFL sales in April. That’s not just rookies, but everyone – including Donovan McNabb in new threads. Sam Bradford is a better player with a much brighter future, but his jersey only ranked ninth in the league. People are strange.
The NBA announced their all-defensive team today, and it’s impressive. I wouldn’t want to have to score against them, and they’d do a pretty good job at scoring on anyone else as well. LeBron and Kobe lead the way, and are joined by Dwight Howard, Gerald Wallace, and Rajon Rondo on the point. There aren’t many teams you could put together that could beat that group.
Frustrating news from the world of horse racing today. Ice Box was the best horse in the Kentucky Derby, and if he hadn’t run into walls of horses twice in a row down the stretch he would have won easily. I was looking forward to a rematch between him and Super Saver in the Preakness – one that would very likely have turned out differently than the first meeting. Unfortunately, it was announced today that Ice Box isn’t going to run in the Preakness. Trainer Nick Zito is concerned that the hard run on the stretch because of all the trouble took too much out of him, so he is resting him until the Belmont in five week.s That takes a good deal of the intrigue out of the Preakness. If Lookin at Lucky doesn’t head to Baltimore then the second jewel could be a real dud.
