I have the Blue Jays’ game on in the background as I write this. Ricky Romero has struck out four of the first five batters he has faced. Regular readers will know that this isn’t the first time I have talked about this guy. He’s a youngster who is already very good, and he has a chance to be very special. I bet on him tonight, and I expect to do a lot of that until people start to notice what he is. There isn’t a lefty with a better change-up in the league. Check this guy out if you have a chance. With the rotation they have now and Kyle Drabek ready any day the Jays have a shockingly good rotation for a team that just lost the best pitcher in baseball. Fun to watch – and to profit from.
Update: As always seems to be the case, after I wrote about Ricky Romero he has imploded, and is struggling through a four run inning with two outs. Karma is a bitch.
I’m struggling to figure out how much to read into LeBron’s health issues and the Cavs. Intuitively I know that the public is likely to overreact, and that the situation usually isn’t as bad as it seems. That game 2 loss to the Celtics was as bad as Cleveland has played in a long time, then James missed post-game availability at the practice facility because he was getting the third MRI he has had on his elbow in ten days. That’s just not a good sign. I haven’t seen anything that makes me think that the Cavs can’t win it all – but obviously only if LeBron is okay. The toughest part of assessing the situation is that LeBron insists that it is okay, but when you watched that last game you didn’t have to John Wooden to see that it obviously did. I guess it’s just one more way to make the playoffs interesting.
Interesting press conference from Tiger Woods this afternoon. After the disaster at Quail Hollow last weekend he’s right back in action this week. He was surprisingly frank about the problems he has had, but he insists that his game is improving. The stat that has been thrown around a million times since the cut is that he has bounced back the last four times he has been cut to finish third or better the next time out. There is so much that is unique to this time out, though, that I have a really hard time believing that this situation is comparable. I sure won’t be betting on him.
