1. Pittsburgh Steelers, 3-1 (1) – The Steelers lost at home to the Ravens, and any other year that’d be enough to unseat the top team in a power rankings poll. But this year is different. Parity is the norm. No team is decidedly better than the rest. The Steelers have been very good, and they’ve done it without Ben Roethisberger. He’s back now, so the Steelers stay #1.
The NFL seems to have its most competitive season yet. Parity is the norm, and no one team is head and shoulders above the rest. Pittsburgh looked to be the early season favorite, but they couldn’t handle the Ravens at home. Indy had played great football the past two weeks, but lost to the hapless Jags on a last second, 59 yard field goal. And the defending champs nearly lost another home game, this time to the Panthers and their rookie quarterback, Jimmy Clausen.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide, 4-0 (1) – Mighty Alabama just about fell to Arkansas. The Tide was down to the Hogs by 13 in the second half, but 2 Ryan Mallett interceptions and Alabama’s cool resolve ended in a 24-20 win. The champs don’t get any time to rest, though. They welcome the Gators to Tuscaloosa for another big game, and then have to travel to South Carolina. Last week: Defeated Arkansas, 24-20. This week: vs. Florida (4-0).
