The NFL regular season kicks off this Thursday night when the New Orleans Saints begin their championship defense at home against the Minnesota Vikings. The game is a rematch of last year’s NFC title game, which the Saints won in overtime. The Saints looked good in the preseason. Drew Brees is an elite quarterback, and Reggie Bush might be ready to have his break-out season this year. For the Vikings, Brett Favre is back for his final season yet again. Sage Rosenfels was traded to the New York Giants, which means Tavaris Jackson is the established backup should Favre fall to injury. After the way the Saints went after Favre last year, that scenario is certainly a possibility. The absence of Sidney Rice is a big loss for Minnesota. The public likes the Saints at nearly 4:1. As you can see on our NFL betting lines page – or the table below – the line opened with New Orleans favored by 4 ½ points. Most books have stayed there, though a couple have moved up to 5 points.

We are a little under 2 months away before the NFL regular season kicks off with the Minnesota Vikings traveling to the superdome in New Orleans to take on the super bowl champion Saints. With the NFL season approaching we thought it would be a good time to revisit the Week 1 NFL lines and see if there have been any major changes in the NFL odds since our last post. We are not that far away from the opening week of the 2010 NFL football season. Bookmaker has week 1 NFL lines now posted and for those wondering what they are, here they are. We have also included 5Dimes current NFL football lines to compare. The column titled open is the first number Bookmaker opened up at. Bookmaker’s week 1 odds have been out for a few weeks now and as you can see to this point the lines makers have done a great job as very few of the week 1 point spreads have moved much at all. Minnesota has seen a little action going from 4.5 to 4.
