Philadelphia has its trio of aces lined up to face the San Francisco Giants in the National League Championship Series.
San Francisco Giants at Philadelphia Phillies
San Francisco defeated the Braves 3-1 in their National League Division Series and now the level of competition raises even further against the two-time defending Senior Circuit champion. The Giants are playing in the National League Championship Series for the fifth time and has logged a 2-2 series mark in their previous trips. Philadelphia’s staff may be getting all of the attention, but San Francisco’s starters finished with a 0.93 ERA in four games versus Atlanta, which was the third-lowest ERA by an NL rotation in a postseason series. The two teams split six games during the 2010 regular season with each team taking two of three games in its own ballpark. San Francisco won each of its final five road series beginning on July 5, posting the best road winning percentage in baseball with a .643 mark over that span (27-15).

A pair of Cy Young Award winners square off in a crucial contest in the National League playoff race at Busch Stadium.
San Francisco Giants at St. Louis Cardinals
San Francisco captured a 6-3 road victory over the Cardinals in the opening game of this three-game series in St. Louis. The Giants are now 9-9 in August after completing a 20-8 July, but the club is happy with its recent results overall. In 83 games of scoring three-or-more runs in a game, the team has produced a 62-20 record (.756), which is the second-best winning percentage in the majors in that particular situation. The club is 3-4 in its current 12-game stretch in which they play against opponents in the heart of the playoff picture. San Francisco has posted a 32-31 record on the road this season, which is the fourth-best mark in the National League behind San Diego, Cincinnati and Florida. The team has compiled a 5-7 record as a road underdog of +125 to +150 this season (-30) and the total is 8-4 O/U in those contests. It’s also important to state the Giants are 12-7 when playing on Saturday (+600).

The Giants look to gain more ground in the divisional race by sending their ace to the hill in the series finale.
San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants
San Diego had its five-game winning streak snapped with Saturday’s 3-2 loss to San Francisco at AT&T Park. “We had our chances,” said manager Bud Black, whose team lost to the Giants for just the second time in 10 chances this season. The Padres left a season-high 16 runners on base and were 2-for-18 with runners in scoring position. The club has posted an impressive 13-5 record on Sundays this year (+880), which is their best winning percentage of any day. San Diego has won each of its last eight Sunday games and 11 of the last 12. With the team being 21 games over .500, it’s important to note that the only other San Diego teams to reach that mark at any point of the season are the two National League champion clubs (1998 and 1994). The Padres bring in a solid 23-13 record in day games this season (+1,160) and the total stands at 17-14 O/U in those contests.
The Giants are falling fast in the NL West standings and are hoping their ace can stop the slide.
San Francisco Giants at Colorado Rockies
San Francisco is praying that its two-time Cy Young Award winner can jumpstart the club, as the team has lost a season-high six games. The bullpen also needs an extended start by the rotation, as the unit has pitched 40.1 of the club’s last 96 innings. “We can use an extra arm right now,” manager Bruce Bochy said. The Giants have had all kinds of trouble against division opponents, producing a 8-18 versus the NL West (-1,400). Tonight will be San Francisco’s second game of an 11-game, three-city trip, as the team has posted a 15-21 mark away from AT&T Park (-720). The lineup has scored three runs-or-fewer in 36 of its 78 games this year, but there are still seven other teams in that National League that have had more games in the category.

The Giants two-time Cy Young winner takes to the mound, looking to gain more confidence against the worst team in baseball.
Baltimore Orioles at San Francisco Giants
Baltimore grabbed a 4-1 victory in the second game of this three-game series last night, winning for just the third time in their last 19 games. The Orioles have been outscored 118-45 over that span. Tuesday’s victory also snapped the team’s nine-game road losing streak, as opponents held a 55-19 advantage in those games. OF Adam Jones launched a solo home run in leading the Orioles offense, but the team has still hit just 51 home runs on the year, good for 10th in the American League and 51 behind league-leading Toronto. Baltimore is still the only team in baseball without a home run from its first baseman. Scoring runs is still difficult for the group, managing to score just 39 runs in their last 17 games and 45 runs in their last 19 games.

Two of the prize pitchers in the National League face off for the fifth time in their careers at AT&T Park.
Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants
Colorado dropped Sunday’s rubber match, 4-3, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. “We did nothing to lose the game and everything we could to win the game,” Rockies manager Jim Tracy said after the game. The Rockies are still 15-12 in the month of May (+280), which is an improvement from their 36-47 mark during the month the last three years (-1,500). Colorado finds itself in one of its worst betting situations as a team, being placed on the road with a money line of -100 to -125, going 2-5 this year (-380) and 10-26 the last three seasons (-1,920).
A two-time Cy Young winner takes the hill as a heavy favorite on Wednesday night, but underdog bettors may find value in the .500 visitors.

Programming note – Each day of the Olympics I’ll be posting an Olympic bet of the day. There will be some hockey, of course, but we’ll also throw in everything from biathlon to bobsled. It should be good fun, and hopefully it’s not too terribly unprofitable. The first medals will be awarded tomorrow, so keep your eyes open.
