The Phillies are almost at full strength offensively and face off against a former teammate at Citizens Bank Park this evening.

Houston Astros at Philadelphia Phillies

Houston salvaged the final game of a three-game series in Florida with a 2-1 victory at Sun Life Stadium on Sunday afternoon.  The Astros now move on to Philadelphia where they have a 12-7 all-time record at Citizens Bank Park and a 26-16 overall mark against the Phillies since the start of the 2004 season.  Tonight’s contest is the fourth game of 10-game road trip against the NL East, as the club is 9-14 versus the division this season.  The starting staff has carried the load recently, posting a 2.54 ERA in the last 13 games, with the team compiling a 7-6 record in that span.  Houston is 34-55 against right-handed starters this year (-1,000) and the total is 44-41 O/U in those contests.  It’s also important to note the team is 5-8 as a road underdog of +125 to +150 in 2010 and a dismal 22-36 in this situation the last three years (-580).

The teams will be hard-pressed to match last night’s 24 combined runs, with a pair of solid right-handers facing off.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia Phillies

Los Angeles may have finally broken out of its offensive slump, scoring a combined 23 runs in the last two games, including 15 in a Tuesday night victory over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.  “We hope to give the pitching staff a little confidence and let them know their offense is clicking,” outfielder Andre Ethier said.  “At the same time, it gives us a little confidence.”  The team averaged just 2.5 runs in its first 23 games after the All-Star break before this two-game outburst.  The Dodgers are still just 3-10 at Citizens Bank Park since 2008, which includes five postseason games.  The club is a dismal 2-8 as a road underdog of +125 to +150 this season (-520) and the total in those games is 4-6 O/U.  Los Angeles has won five of its last six games against the NL East, but still stand at 11-13 versus the division this year.

The Phillies are enjoying a red-hot August despite having major stars on the disabled list.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia Phillies

Los Angeles has lost nine of its last 10 road games and is suffering through a five-game losing streak away from Dodger Stadium.  In those five games, the offense is managing to average just 1.8 runs and hit for a .156 combined average.  The club hopes to build off of an eight-run outburst in the homestand finale against the Nationals.  “Today was a good day,” manager Joe Torre said about Sunday’s output.  “But we need more contributions from the guys in the middle.  The Dodgers are in the middle of a 10-game stretch against opponents from the National League East (2-1) and have posted a 10-13 record against the division this season.  Los Angeles if 5-4 this month (-100) and 32-35 in August over the last three seasons (-1,580).  The Blue Crew has compiled a solid 8-4 record on the road with a money line of -100 to -125 (+360), which differs greatly from the 22-30 mark the last three years in this situation (-1,160).

The Phillies will be without one of their top sluggers in the opening game of this three-game series in South Florida.

Philadelphia Phillies at Florida Marlins

Philadelphia continues to be bit by the injury bug, as All-Star first baseman Ryan Howard has traveled back home to have his left ankle examined by the team physician.  “It’s just swollen.  It’s tight, sore.  Other than that, it’s not too, too bad,” Howard said.  The Phillies are already without the services of second baseman Chase Utley and outfielder Shane Victorino.  The club has earned an even 4-4 record in its first eight meetings with the Marlins, but took two out of three at Sun Life Stadium in May.  The Phillies are 11-3 in their last 14 games in Miami.  Philadelphia enjoyed an off day on Monday and looks to even up its record in this situation, as the team is 5-6 this season after receiving a day off (-290).  The Phillies are 34-24 after a day of rest the last three seasons overall (+660).

Bettors will be hard-pressed to find a more lopsided pitching matchup than this series finale at Nationals Park.

Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals

Philadelphia has dropped the two opening games of this series and have produced a 7-20 mark on the road since May 30.  Before this series, the Phillies were an impressive 15-6 in the nation’s capital since the start of the 2008 season.  Closer Brad Lidge blew the save in Saturday’s 7-5 loss and is now 1-1 with a 5.57 ERA and 10 saves in 14 opportunities this season.  “He’s our guy,” Manuel said.  “We’ve been working with him now for two years.”  The club dropped to 12-14 when facing left-handed starters this season (-790) and the total is 11-15 O/U in those contests.  In 2009, the Phillies went 29-16 (.644) in games started by opposing southpaws, which was the best winning percentage among all NL teams.  Philadelphia has now dropped its last five road series, with its last such win coming on June 15-17 in New York (AL).  The club is 32-24 in August the last three years (-200).

The Phillies have a chance of picking up their first-ever four-game sweep of the Rockies on Monday afternoon.

Colorado Rockies at Philadelphia Phillies

Colorado fell to 2-8 on its current road trip after a 4-3 defeat on Sunday afternoon against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.  The Rockies have dropped to fourth place in the NL West standings and trails the Padres by 7.5 games.  The offense left 12 men on base Sunday and were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.  “You don’t put yourself in a favorable position when you strand 12 runners,” manager Jim Tracy said.  Part of the problem this season has been the lineup’s ineffectiveness with runners in scoring position and two outs, hitting .223 in the situation this season, which ranks 13th in the league.  Colorado is 19-16 during day games this season (+160) with the total being 11-23 O/U in those games.

The Rockies look to bounce back from a shutout loss with their ace on the hill at Citizens Bank Park.

Colorado Rockies at Philadelphia Phillies

Colorado has faced off against opposing All-Star hurlers in back-to-back games, falling in defeat in both games, including a 6-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies last night.  “We take it one day at a time,” Rockies manager Jim Tracy said.  “We’re 2-6 on since the break.  We’ve had a couple games here that were winnable.”  Today’s game is the second game between the two clubs at Citizens Bank Park since facing off against each other in the 2009 Division Series.  It’s important for the Rockies to score first on the road this season, as the club is 3-16 away from Coors Field when the opponent scores the games first run.  Colorado is 0-2 after getting shutout this season (-200), but is an impressive 5-0 after three or more consecutive losses (+580).
