The San Diego Chargers look to rebound against Jacksonville this Sunday afternoon. The Chargers dropped a tough game to the Chiefs in Kansas City last Monday night, despite outgaining KC almost 2 to 1. After getting down 21-7, the Chargers fought back and had a chance to tie the game. But late in the game they couldn’t convert on 4th and goal.
The Dallas Cowboys embarrassed themselves against the Washington Redskins on Sunday night. The ‘Skins only touchdown came when the ‘Boys fumbled the last play of the first half, which was picked up by DeAngelo Hall and returned 32 yards for the score. And just as Dallas looked to win on the game’s final play, a holding call on Alex Barron negated the touchdown and ended the game. Washington won, 13-7.
The Cincinnati Bengals (0-1) will be hard-pressed to duplicate last year’s perfect 6-0 record in the AFC North when they host the Baltimore Ravens (1-0) in their home opener on Sunday. The Bengals are 2.5-point home underdogs on the NFL odds and got a lot of hype leading up to last week’s 38-24 loss at New England due to the acquisition of wide receiver Terrell Owens. Meanwhile, the Ravens are coming off a dominant defensive effort in a 10-9 road win spread covering win over the Jets on Monday night.
The Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0) overcame the suspension of starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in a season-opening 15-9 overtime win against Atlanta last Sunday and will now look to earn a tough road victory when they visit the Tennessee Titans (1-0). Pittsburgh is a 5.5 point underdog on the current NFL lines. The Steelers used strong defense to hold the Falcons without a touchdown and must face a Titans team that crushed Oakland 38-13 in their season opener.
The first week of NFL action brought about some interesting storylines. Are the Colts no longer the dominant team in the AFC East? Houston played exceptionally well, and Tennessee and Jacksonville had nice wins. Will Michael Vick be the starter in Philadelphia? Kevin Kolb was terribly ineffective. Are the Patriots and Giants back to old form? Both teams scored big home wins. And what about the Cowboys’ showing in Washington? Heads are gonna roll in the Big D.
The St. Louis Rams are coming off a disastrous 2009 campaign. They were awful. Stephen Jackson is a great player, but as a team the Rams were horrible. They were so bad that they were able to choose first in the NFL draft. The Rams selected Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford with the first pick, and Bradford is set to lead the Rams in 2010.
The Indianapolis Colts begin their AFC championship defense against the Houston Texans Sunday afternoon. Can Peyton Manning and the Colts start the 2010 season with the same kind of winning streak as last season? The public thinks so, but the wiseguys do not.
The New York Giants will have revenge on their minds when they welcome the Carolina Panthers to the new Meadowlands Stadium. The Panthers smoked the Giants, 41-9 in the final game in Giants Stadium behind Jonathan Stewart’s 206 yard rushing effort and Matt Moore’s 3 touchdowns.
