The club is averaging 4.4 runs per game on the road and hitting for a combined .241 average, but those numbers go up to 5.0 runs and a .258 mark against right-handed starters.  Toronto has posted a disappointing 8-13 mark as a road underdog of +125 to +150 this season (-230) and the total is 11-9 O/U in those games.  It’s also important to note that the team is 30-25 against division opponents in 2010 (+1,080).

Oakland Athletics at New York Yankees

Oakland has dropped seven of eight games versus the Yankees this season and have been outscored 20-8 in dropping the first two games of this four-game set.  The Athletics came into the series with a major league-best 3.36 ERA, but that has been pushed up to 3.49 due to the last couple days.  The team has lost four of its last six games, but has still won eight of 14 overall.  It’s important to note that the club has a 16-27 record in the first game of a series, 21-22 in the second and a dominating 25-14 mark in the third contest.  Oakland finished August with a 13-15 record, which was tied with Texas for the best record among AL West clubs during the month.  Tonight marks the 25th time in the last 36 games that the Athletics have played a team that was in first place in their division or the wild card race at the time, posting a 10-14 record in the previous 24 contests.  The club has a 12-10 record on the road when the total is 9 to 9.5  (+260) and 45-47 in this situation the last three campaigns (+1,440).

Seattle Mariners at New York Yankees

Seattle continues its season-high 12-game road trip in taking on the New York Yankees in a three-game set in the Bronx.  The Mariners are averaging a league-worst 3.3 runs per game and have managed to hit just 75 home runs this season.  The club is a solid 6-3 under interim manager Daren Brown and is coming off back-to-back wins over the Baltimore Orioles.  Offensively, the team is being led by second baseman Chone Figgins, as he has collected a hit in 15 of his past 21 games.  Over its past 11 games, the bullpen has allowed just seven earned runs on 18 hits in 28 innings, producing a 2.25 ERA in the process.  Seattle is 20-41 on the road overall this season (-1,810) and the total is 30-26 O/U over that span.  The Mariners are also 4-12 as a road underdog of +100 to +125 (-780) and 23-31 in this situation the last three years (-540).

The Red Sox are hoping to earn a split in this four-game series and see their talented left-hander bounce back from a bad stretch.

Boston will try to salvage a split in this four-game series after dropping the last two contests, including a 7-2 defeat last night on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.  “This was a huge opportunity for us, trying to gain ground on these guys and Tampa Bay,” said third baseman Adrian Beltre.  “But unfortunately it didn’t work out the way we wanted.”  The Red Sox are now seven games back of the Yankees and 4.5 away in the Wild Card race.  The club is now an even 4-4 this month (-340) and 38-25 in August the last three years (+780).  Boston has also slipped up against divisional foes in 2010, posting a 21-22 record (-530), with the total being 24-17 O/U in those games.  The banged up ball  club did receive some encouraging news over the weekend, as second baseman Dustin Pedroia (left foot) has plans of returning to the lineup on August 17
