Training camps have begun and tip-off is less than a week away, so it’s time to preview the upcoming NBA season. With all the movement in the offseason it is likely that some new teams will rise to the tops of their divisions. Let’s take a look at the Pacific Division. – All odds according to Pinnacle Sportsbook, although other places like Bodog offer online NBA betting on these props as well.

The biggest injury news of the week is that the Green Bay Packers will be without running back Ryan Grant. He is out for the season with an ankle injury. The news had little impact on the NFL spreads. The Packers opened a 14-point favorite and it has gone down to 13. How much this effects the Packers will remain to be seen. The Packers are a pass-first team, but Grant was the go-to guy in the backfield, especially when the weather got bad later in the season. Brandon Jackson had 63 yards on 18 carries as Grant’s replacement last week, and may be able to fill the void. Here is a look at some of the significant injuries from the NFL injury report for week 2.
With LeBron James taking his talents to South Beach this fall, the 2010-11 MVP race becomes wide open. The NBA pick handicappers at Maddux Sports have broken down and previewed the prop bet. Will King James win the award for the third consecutive season, or will someone else be taking home the trophy?
The NBA Finals are about to start. Needless to say, that means that there are a whole lot of props available for sports bettors to invest in. Oddsmakers are getting increasingly creative, so you can bet on pretty much any aspect of the series. With so much available, there inevitably are at least a few that are more than a little interesting. Here’s a look at a handful of the props that stand out in my eyes as being worth a closer look. For simplicity I’ll take all of these props from Bodog, but most online books are offering a wide range of their own:
The 2010 NBA Finals are about to get underway. It’s not the Kobe – LeBron matchup that virtually everyone in the world outside of Boston wanted to see, but a rematch of the classic 2008 finals is a pretty good consolation prize. With a long break between games for both teams leading into this series the media has been forced to fill a lot of pages without a game to write about. Not surprisingly, a lot of what they have focused on isn’t likely to be a massive factor in the series, and serves only as a distraction for serious bettors. Here are five of the more overhyped storylines that the media is focusing too much time and ink on:
Steve Nash had a bruised eye which will hopefully heal by Sunday, but the Suns as a whole will have a difficult time coming back from an 0-2 deficit against the Lakers for the Western Conference Title. In Game Two the Lakers came out strongly and evidently the 7.5 point favorites which the odds makers pinned them. The Suns gave up a 36 point first quarter, and even though the Suns tightened their game, the Lakers ran away with it in the fourth quarter. The Lakers travel to Phoenix for Game Three of the Western Conference Finals Series.
The Phoenix Suns have dealt with some drama including sweeping the Spurs in the second round of the NBA Western Conference Finals. Their all-star point guard Steve Nash’s scary appearance should be less frightful as his stitched up eye heals.
Coach K is absolutely ridiculous. Did you catch his whining and ranting at his press conference today? What a baby. One of the papers in Indianapolis featured an article about the fact was a team that many, many people love to hate – a fact that is undeniably true. To illustrate the article, the coach was depicted with blue devil’s horns and a target on his forehead. Krzyzkewski spent far, far too long at the media gathering complaining about how juvenile the whole thing was, and how his grandkids are apparently horrified. Now, here’s the thing, Mike – you coach a team called the freaking Blue Devils. Therefore, depicting you as a devil with blue horns, while not necessarily the highest form of humor, just makes sense. The target makes sense, too – they are the only No. 1 seed remaining, and the team that everyone remaining would most like to beat. So, Coach K spending so much time complaining and being outraged was, well, juvenile. Man do I hope Duke loses.
It’s the 2008-2009 NBA Finals and this season sees the number three seed in the East, the Orlando Magic (59-23), meet the number one seed in the West, the Los Angeles Lakers (65-17). The Magic beat the Philadelphia 76ers in the initial round, the Boston Celtics in the second and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Lakers took it to the Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets.
