Last article we took a look at the AL East and the teams’ prospects towards winning Pennants and division titles. This time around we’ll take a look at the AL Central, which is not nearly as top heavy and dominant as the East, which features three of the better teams in the league, never mind the AL. Odds and Bets are taken from Bodog.
The Yankees look to continue pouring it on against losing clubs and extend their lead in the AL East.
Kansas City Royals at New York Yankees
Kansas City fell four runs behind the New York Yankees in the first inning and never had a chance in coming back in a 7-1 defeat at Yankee Stadium. The Royals squandered 14 hits by leaving 14 runners on base Thursday, managed to collect just five hits last night in the second game of the series. The club has now recorded a 2-6 record since the All-Star break, after finishing out the first half with a 10-6 run. It’s hard to expect the Royals breaking through with a victory this afternoon due to the club’s 2-13 mark when playing on Saturday this season (-900) and 23-45 record the last three years (-1,550). The total in those games is 7-8 O/U and 33-34 O/U respectively. Playing during the day has been a slightly profitable situation, posting a 14-17 record in 2010 (+30) and 66-74 mark over the last three seasons (+750).
The Angels look to avoid being swept at home for the first time in 77 series tonight in front of a national audience.
Kansas City Royals at Los Angeles Angels
Kansas City was led by pitcher Bruce Chen starting Saturday’s game with six perfect innings before eventually picking up a 4-2 road victory against the Los Angeles Angels. “I’ll have to get my dictionary out to find a better word than awesome, great, fantastic,” manager Ned Yost said about the start. The Royals have reached the halfway point of the season, going 36-45 through 81 games, after going 35-46 at this point of the year in 2009. Last night’s victory also gave the Royals three straight series victories over the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago White Sox and Angels. The Royals are going for their first three-game series sweep of the season.

The Nationals seek a three-game interleague sweep of the lowly Royals with their rookie phenom on the mound.
Kansas City Royals at Washington Nationals
Kansas City dropped its fifth game in a row on Tuesday night, falling 5-4 to the Washington Nationals in the nation’s capitol. The current losing streak is the club’s longest under current manager Ned Yost. The Royals are now 5-9 during interleague play this year, but are still 46-40 over the last five seasons against the National League. OF Jose Guillen has been the lone bright spot during the team’s recent struggles, compiling a career-long 17-game hitting streak. Being a big-sized road underdog of +225 to +250 is nothing new to the small town Royals, as the lines maker has placed them in this role for the fourth time already this season (2-1, +380).

A pair of aces matchup against each other in the series finale.
Los Angeles Angels at Kansas City Royals
Los Angeles picked up its sixth win in eight games on Wednesday night, grabbing a 7-2 road victory over the Kansas City. The Angels have now won 11 of their last 13 games against the Royals, including eight of the last 10 at Kauffman Stadium. The team’s offense is currently searching for someone to replace 1B Kendry Morales, who is on the disabled list with a broken leg. Manager Mike Scioscia may have found a temporary solution, giving C/DH Mike Napoli his second start at the position. He enjoyed a successful month of May, hitting .322 with eight home runs and 17 RBIs. “Mike’s value to our team is important at any time,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. Los Angeles has compiled an 11-8 daytime mark this season (+360) and the team is 79-34 over the last three years (+4,610).
