2010 San Diego Chargers
The Chargers look to bounce back on a short week and are favored by 7 points over the Jaguars
The San Diego Chargers (0-1) will try to get back on track and look to avoid an 0-2 start for the second year in a row under head coach Norv Turner when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-0).  The Chargers are coming off a disappointing 21-14 loss at Kansas City on Monday night while the Jaguars knocked off another AFC West foe in Denver 24-17 last Sunday.

Ravens Bengals NFL Game
Early money saw the Over take some action but in this division game, the under is the right side in my opinion
With one week in the books, the picture gets a little clearer on who can score. Here is a handicapping breakdown and quick look at the totals for Week 2 in the National Football League:

David Garrard and the Jaguars are 3 point home favorites
The Denver Broncos and Jacksonville Jaguars kick off the 2010 season on Sunday in a rare game where the road team will play a major role in the attendance.  The Jaguars sold out only one home game last season, prompting numerous blackouts for local fans who wanted to watch their team on television.  Enter rookie sensation Tim Tebow, who is a Jacksonville native but was drafted by the Broncos in the first round of this year’s NFL draft.

Jaguars Vs Eagles Preseason Odds
Mike Vick is one of the 3 philly QBs making the depth at that position warrant NFL odds of -3
The Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars both have a lot to prove going into their preseason opener on Friday, but for different reasons.  The NFL odds makers have the Eagles as home favorites of -3 and begin the Kevin Kolb era at quarterback after he replaced Donovan McNabb in the offseason.  Kolb became the only QB in NFL history to throw for more than 300 yards in his first two starts for Philly last year when he filled in for an injured McNabb, but this year he will be saddled with even higher expectations in trying to replace a legend.

I talked about Joe Torre’s roster moves on Thursday, and by Sunday they had already come back to haunt him. As you may recall, Torre deactivated Jeff Weaver and Jon Garland, and activated Hiroki Kuroda in their place. Kuroda had been out for the first round with a back injury. I said then that  it seemed like a very odd decision – surely a healthy Garland or Weaver was better than a rusty and likely sore Kuroda. It turns out, for once, that I was right. Kuroda was terrible last night – allowing six runs while recording just four outs – and is the main reason why the Phillies are holding a 2-1 lead. Far be it from me to second guess Torre, but I really don’t get it.

The buzz has been around for a bit, but it really seems to be intensifying tonight – it seems like Tampa Bay is going to call up phenom pitcher and former number one pick for the post-season. Though he is a starter, he would likely start out in the bullpen much like Joba Chamberlain did last year. That worked out very well at the time (except for when there were bugs), and the same could happen for the Rays. They don’t really need rotation help right now, but another stud in the bullpen would really help. Apparently Price is doing very well in the minors and is more than ready for prime time. I think that the Rays are attractive anyway, but this helps even more.

I don’t know about you, but I am itching for the football season to get here. Aching, really. NFL training camps get under way right away, so America’s favorite sport has been on my mind a lot lately. We’ll obviously spend a lot of time talking about the league in the weeks and months to come, but before we get into any specifics I just wanted to reflect on some of the general thoughts that are bouncing through my mind at this point.

Jacksonville
– I like this team. A lot. Their division is a bit softer than it has been. Their offense is solid. Their defense is significantly upgraded. Every year there are a couple of teams that I either make or lose a fortune on. I strongly suspect that Jacksonville is one of those teams. They aren’t going to surprise anyone, and the public is going to be aware of them, but I still thin that they will play well enough to make some money.
