The Notre Dame Fighting Irish is finally starting to put things together this season. They’re riding a three game winning streak and are looking to make it four in a row when they host the Air Force Falcons this Saturday. In their last three games, the Irish have beaten Michigan State, Pittsburgh, and Purdue.
The Kansas State Wildcats are one of college football’s biggest surprises this season. After traveling to Miami and beating the Hurricanes on their home field, the Wildcats avoided a letdown last week by nipping then-ranked Baylor 36-35. They’ll look to keep their momentum rolling when they host the Missouri Tigers this Saturday.
The New England Patriots will travel across the country to take on the Raiders in Oakland this Sunday. Both teams have shown signs of being good enough to play into January. The Patriots no huddle, spread passing attack has been tough to stop. But so too has Oakland’s physical ground game. This is a game of contrasting styles and one that should be fun to watch.
The Carolina Panthers head to Soldier Field for a game against the Chicago Bears this Sunday afternoon. The Panthers, led by rookie sensation Cam Newton, picked up their first win of the season last week, beating Jacksonville 16-10. The Bears have dropped two in a row, losing to the Saints and Packers in consecutive weeks.
The Ohio State Buckeyes will welcome the Michigan State Spartans to the Horseshoe this Saturday in the forgotten Big 10 game of the weekend. The Wisconsin-Nebraska game will understandably get the lion’s share of press, but this should be a great game and one that Ohio State has some value in.
The Arkansas Razorbacks and soon to be SEC member Texas A&M are set to square off this Saturday in the Southwest Classic, which is played in Cowboys Stadium. Last season Arkansas managed to hold off the Aggies for a 7 point win, narrowly covering the spread. This year both teams come into the game following disappointing losses, which makes this a big game for two teams with BCS bowl aspirations.
The Miami Dolphins deserve a break. They hosted the Patriots in week 1 and the Texans in week 2. They played well enough in each game, but dropped them both. They travel to Cleveland this weekend for a date with the Browns, a team that has been blessed with a much easier schedule early on. The Browns have lost to the Bengals at home and won at Indy last Sunday.
The New York Jets travel cross-country to take on the Oakland Raiders in a game that pits one of the League’s top rush defenses against one of the League’s top rush offenses. The Jets are coming off a thorough thrashing of the Jags at home, while Oakland blew a 21-3 halftime lead at Buffalo, giving up a staggering 35 second half points to lose 38-35 at the end of the game.
The Texas A&M Aggies welcome the Oklahoma State Cowboys to College Station for one of the Big 12’s best games of the season. Both teams are ranked in the top 10, and the winner takes a big step forward towards earning an automatic berth in a BCS bowl, maybe even the national championship game. Of course, each team has to wrestle with Oklahoma somewhere down the line …
