Fade the Public Favorite: Texas Tech Vs SMU College Football Picks

This Sunday features an interesting match-up between the Southern Methodist Mustangs and Texas Tech Red Raiders. Our college football betting lines page indicates that the Red Raiders opened as 10 ½ point favorites. But heavy betting on the side of Tech (75%) has raised that number to 13 ½ points at most books. With that many points, I think it’s wise to fade this public favorite and back the Mustangs.

Wiseguys Looking for Kansas State Wildcats to Maul UCLA Bruins

The UCLA Bruins travel to Manhattan, Kansas to do battle with the Kansas State Wildcats this Saturday. UCLA is coming off a moderately successful 2009 campaign, finishing 7-6 after defeating Temple in the EagleBank Bowl. Kansas State also saw improvement last season, ending up 6-6 but unable to play in a bowl game since two wins came against I-AA teams.

The Oklahoma Sooners are expected to annihilate the Utah State Aggies this Saturday evening. According to our college football betting lines page, the Sooners opened as a 28 point favorite and now books are listing the game at 34 points. The betting public is on the side of the Sooners at a staggering 97% clip, which is why the line has jumped 6 points. By game time, this line will hopefully be at or over 35 ½ points.

It always seems easy in hindsight to look at the teams that don’t live up to their hype and pick out the reasons for their struggles. We have been saying that the college football season is getting closer every day and that is evident now that 2 online sportsbooks have posted the week 1 college football lines. Last year the sports books posted the opening lines on August 10th so they are a little ahead of schedule. This could be bad news for college sports handicappers if the linesmakers are already ahead of the game and willing to post these point spread numbers earlier than last year.
