Thursday MLB Preview – Rockies at Mets

The Mets send their ace to the hill in trying to capture a three-game series from the Rockies at Citi Field.

Colorado Rockies at New York Mets

Colorado picked up a 6-2 victory in the second game of this series over the Mets at Citi Field.  The club will be looking to pick up its first road series win over today’s opponent in more than eight years.  The Rockies are 25-17 in games against left-handed starters this season (+500), after posing a 27-26 mark in 2009.  Offensively, the team has 162 RBIs versus southpaws, which is the most in the National League.  The lineup is being led by outfielder Carlos Gonzalez having the second-most extra-base hits since the All-Star break in the league (16) and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki batting .375 with one home run and 12 RBIs in 14 games since returning from the disabled list.  Colorado is a dismal 4-11 as a road underdog of +125 to +150 (-560) and the total in those games stands at 6-9 O/U in that span.

ESPN Wednesday Night Baseball Preview – Cardinals at Mets

A pair of dominating left-handers take center stage in the Big Apple on ESPN.

St. Louis Cardinals at New York Mets

St. Louis is set to play the second game of this three game series this evening, as part of a six-game, seven-day road trip.  The Cardinals fell 8-2 in defeat on Tuesday evening at Citi Field and the team is now 8-4 since the All-Star break.  The club is batting .294 and averaging 6.0 runs per game in its 55 wins, while hitting just .223 and scoring 2.5 runs a game in 45 losses.  Surprisingly, the team picked up a loss with starting pitcher Adam Wainwright on the hill, as they are 40-23 in games involving the right-hander, Chris Carpenter and tonight’s starter.  It was the fifth time in 11 road starts this season that the Cards have scored no runs or one run while Wainwright was in the game.  The lineup went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 runners on the night.  St. Louis has posted a 2-3 mark as a road underdog of +100 to +125 this season (-90) and an even 29-29 the last three years (+250).

Sunday MLB Betting Preview – Braves at Mets

The two division rivals have been involved in low-scoring affairs the last nine meetings.

Atlanta Braves at New York Mets

Atlanta has pushed its lead in the NL East standings to six games with its current five-game winning streak after shutting out the New York Mets 3-0 at Citi Field on Saturday afternoon.  “It’s good to be in first place going into the break,” said manager Bobby Cox.   The Braves are now a season-high 17 games over .500 for the first time since the end of the 2005 season.  The latest win pushed its daytime record to 18-11 this season (+660) and the total moving to 16-13 O/U with just four runs posted on the scoreboard.  Atlanta is averaging 5.6 runs per game offensively while holding teams to 4.2 runs with a combined .238 average.  The club is 17-14 versus the division this season (+10), but a dominating 13-3 in their past 16 meetings.

Saturday MLB Daytime Betting Feature – Twins at Mets

Mets 3B David Wright looks to continue terrorizing American League pitchers in Game 2 of this interleague series.

Minnesota Twins at New York Mets

Minnesota has now lost four straight games for the first time this season, but manager Ron Gardenhire is not one to panic, “These guys are feeling it a bit right now, they’re disappointed.  It’s a long season and we’ve got to keep grinding.”  The Twins are 2-5 on its current road trip and have gone 8-17 in their last 25 games away from Target Field.  The starting rotation has struggled on the road, posting a 17-20 record and 5.49 ERA compared to a 23-13 mark and 3.37 ERA at home.  The Twins face former teammate Johan Santana this afternoon, as they were 3-0 with him on the mound versus the Mets during his tenure in Minnesota.  The club is a disappointing 7-9 in interleague action (-260), but has still posted the third-best all-time mark at 139-105 against the NL.

Sunday MLB Daytime Betting Feature – Marlins at Mets

The Mets are currently the best home team in baseball and look to complete a three-game sweep.

Florida Marlins at New York Mets

Florida has dropped the first two games of its current road series against the New York Mets, after having a previous six-game winning streak against them.  The Marlins now find themselves with a 28-29 record heading into Sunday’s contest (-350).  “Bottom line is we had some opportunities to get back in the game and we’re not swinging it right now,” manager Fredi Gonzalez said.  “We’ll come back tomorrow.”  Even after losing to a left-handed pitcher on Saturday, Florida still possesses a dominating 13-7 record against southpaws this season (+570).  The Marlins still remain two games over .500 against division foes with a 13-11 record (+50) and have a good chance of grabbing the series finale with a 6-2 mark on Sunday (+460).
