Oswalt coming over has made the Phils a monster for teams to contend with this post season
The Cincinnati Reds, who won the NL Central, are making their first playoff appearance since 1995. And, for that effort, they get to face the Philadelphia Phillies.  The Phillies have won their fourth straight NL East title, and are trying to win the pennant for the third straight time. The Phillies were seven games back of the Atlanta Braves in July, but made a push and won the East by six games. The Reds were not expected to hang on, but the St. Louis Cardinals faded in the second half of the season and were not a threat in September.

Cincinnati Reds at San Francisco Giants

Cincinnati suffered an 11-2 blowout loss to the Giants in the first game of a three-game set at AT&T Park, but the team still remains atop the league in batting average  and runs scored.  “The main thing is for nobody to panic.  It’s one game,” Reds manager Dusty Baker said after the game.  “You want to win every game, but at this point we’re 5-2 on this road trip.”  The club is 36-27 on the road this season (+1,140) and has a 10-4 record as a road underdog of +100 to +125 (+760).  The team has won eight of their last 10 games and has produced a solid 15-6 record in August (+920), while the total stands at an even 10-10 O/U in those contests.  Cincinnati is 13-6-1 in their previous 20 road series and has compiled a winning or .500 record on six of their nine road trips.  It’s also important to note that the Reds are 23-17 when facing southpaw starters in 2010 and 72-67 in this situation the last three campaigns (+510).

Cincinnati Reds at San Francisco Giants

Cincinnati currently leads the NL Central division by 3 1/2 games with six weeks to go, as the team starts a three-game series against the Giants.  The Reds captured a 5-2 victory over the Dodgers on Sunday afternoon giving the team its eighth win in nine games and guaranteed a winning nine-game West coast road trip.  “You can’t help but notice we haven’t done much winning in Los Angeles,” first baseman Joey Votto said.  “For us to be the team that finally breaks that streak and gets a winning series on the road, it’s a good thing.”  The pitching staff has been fantastic since June 17, posting a 3.15 ERA, which is the third-best mark in the majors over that span.  Offensively, the club leads the NL with a .272 average and scoring 4.96 runs per game.  The Reds are 15-5 in August (+1,020) and 10-4 as a road underdog of +100 to +125 this season (+760).
