The Oakland Raiders and head coach Tom Cable look for their second win when they travel to Arizona this Sunday afternoon. With Al Davis still calling the shots, Cable needs a strong season or he’s going to be looking for another job.
The Arizona Cardinals (1-0) and Atlanta Falcons (0-1) meet for the first time since the 2009 playoffs when the two NFC contenders square off in Week 2 of the regular season on Sunday. The major difference this time around obviously is that Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner will not be around for the rematch due to his recent retirement while Atlanta’s Matt Ryan is longer a rookie like he was in the last meeting.
With one week in the books, the picture gets a little clearer on who can score. Here is a handicapping breakdown and quick look at the totals for Week 2 in the National Football League:
The St. Louis Rams are coming off a disastrous 2009 campaign. They were awful. Stephen Jackson is a great player, but as a team the Rams were horrible. They were so bad that they were able to choose first in the NFL draft. The Rams selected Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford with the first pick, and Bradford is set to lead the Rams in 2010.
The Arizona Cardinals will have a newer look than even they probably anticipated heading into their regular-season opener on Sunday when they visit the young St. Louis Rams. The Cardinals are 3.5-point road favorites on the current NFL point spread and tabbed free-agent acquisition Derek Anderson as their starting quarterback over Matt Leinart while the Rams will go with rookie Sam Bradford.
When the Washington Redskins head to Arizona to take on the Cardinals Thursday night, the ‘Skins will travel farther than any other preseason team this year. In fact, this will be the longest road trip for the Redskins all season long. “Why couldn’t they come here?” asked guard Derrick Dockery. Head coach Mike Shanahan added, “It’s a little unusual traveling that far.” These are not the kind of comments you want to be reading if you are backing Washington. Considering this is the final week of the preseason and the game doesn’t really matter, Redskins bettors should be very worried.
