With the Super Bowl, comes the countless props that most bookmakers offer. Sometimes these prop wagers can be more profitable than betting on the side or the total. It also gives the bettor a chance to have action all through the game. Let’s take a look at some of the player props for Super Bowl XLVIII in New Jersey between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos. All odds are courtesy of 5 Dimes Sportsbook.

Peyton Manning passing yards 289 1/2 (over -110 / under -110)

Broncos’ quarterback Manning had a brilliant season setting the NFL record for passing yards and touchdowns in a single season. Only four times in 18 games has Manning thrown for under 289 1/2 yards. It happened twice against the San Diego Chargers, including in the Divisional playoff game where Manning threw for 230 yards. One of those times was against the Oakland Raiders in the season finale when Manning threw for 266 yards in the first half before being rested in the second half. Seattle has the leagues best pass defense allowing just 172 yards per game. Still I like Peyton th throw for over 289 1/2 yards.

Russell Wilson passing yards 212 1/2 (over -115 / under -105)

Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson doesn’t have to throw the ball a lot in the Seattle offense. He is capable of throwing for a lot of yardage, but for the most part as long as he doesn’t make too many mistakes he can run it himself or hand it off to running back Marshawn Lynch. Wilson only threw for 103 yards against the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional playoff game and for 215 yards against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game. Denver allowed 194 passing yards by Philip Rivers in the playoff win against the Chargers and 256 by Tom Brady of the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game. Most of Brady’s passing yards came in the fourth quarter when the game was basically decided. I think Wilson throws for under 212 1/2 yards.

Will Manning throw an interception? (Yes -175 / No +155)

Manning only threw 11 interceptions in 18 games this season. However, Seattle led the league with 28 interceptions and added two more during the post-season. The Seahawks have the best secondary in the league and thrive on forcing turnovers. Seattle forced 3 fourth quarter turnovers against San Francisco including the game clinching interception in the end zone late in the fourth. If Seattle can get pressure on Mannign playing behind an offensive line that has injury woes, then I like Manning to throw at least one pick.

Marshawn Lynch rushing yards (over 91 1/2 -110 / under -110)

Denver is very good against the run allowing just under 102 yards per game which was 8th best in the league. Only one time has Denver allowed a 100 yard rusher this season. The Broncos held New England to 64 yards rushing the week after the Patriots ran all over the Indianapolis Colts for 234 yards and 6 touchdowns. However, Lynch is one of the strongest and best running backs in the league. The 49ers had not allowed a 100 yard rusher all season and lynch rushed for 109 yards against them in the championship game. I like Lynch to go over 91 1/2 yards rushing.

Demaryius Thomas pass receptions (over 5 1/2 +105/ under 5 1/2 -125)

Denver receiver Thomas was Peyton Manning’stop receiver catching 92 passes for 1,430 yards with 14 touchdowns. He had a huge game against the Patriots with 7 catches for 134 yards and a touchdown. He had a field day after star New England corner Aqib Talib was injured in the second quarter and did not return to the game. However, in the Super Bowl he will likely be defended by all-pro Seattle corner Richard Sherman considered by many to be the best corner in the league ( Just ask him.) Sherman tipped the ball that ended up being the game clinching interception against the 49ers. It was only the second time in the game the 49ers threw towards Sherman. Manning has too many other weapons with Eric Decker, Wes Welker, tight end Julius Thomas and even running back Knowshon Moreno, all of whom have at least 60 catches. He won’t test the dangerous Sherman on a regular basis so I think Thomas has under 5 1/2 catches.

Will Richard Sherman intercept a pass? (Yes +245 / No -290)

Sherman leads the league in interceptions over the last 3 seasons and is the prototypical shutdown corner. However, he is so good that few teams test him on a regular basis. I don’t think Manning will try to force it past Sherman too many times. I say Sherman doesn’t get a pick.
