It’s time for the Sugar Bowl between Notre Dame and LSU. You can catch Brady Quinn and company as they take on JaMarcus Russell and his squad. There’s a lot at stake for the Fighting Irish and for Quinn. Since 1994, Notre Dame has been in eight bowl games and has lost them all, including a 20 to 34 beating last year by Ohio State in the Fiesta.
In that same span of time, LSU has appeared in nine bowls going 7- 2, including beating the Irish in the 1997 Independence Bowl by a score of 27- 9.
Although the teams look to be fairly evenly matched, there’s concern on the defensive side for Notre Dame, especially when it comes to the secondary. JaMarcus Russell could have a field day tonight throwing the ball and if he does, ND will feel like it’s living a nightmare.
The pass rush by both teams will be extremely important and in that area Notre Dame has Victor Ablamiri (10 sacks) and Derek Landri (seven sacks). The Tigers have solid DEs with Chase Pittman and Tyson Jackson joining together for 13.5 sacks.
If Brady Quinn’s O-line can stand up to the punishment, the quarterback will be effective.
The LSU Tigers are favored and they have a top team, but it doesn’t mean they’ll win. Which signal caller will step up? That, along with each team’s offensive line, will be key. If either team can get their undependable running games going that will be a big advantage.
You can catch the game on FOX at 8 pm.
