You don’t often see a 3.5 point line move on an NBA game, unless something drastic happens. Well, something drastic is happening in Atlanta, as Boston is resting Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen (ankle), Mickael Pietrus (knee), and Rajon Rondo (back) are all out as well tonight against the Hawks. The 37-26 Celtics, coached by Doc Rivers, have already clinched the Atlantic Division and are locked into the #4 seed in the East. They can’t catch the Pacers for the #3 seed, and as a division champion can’t be seeded lower than 4th. Boston is trying to hold off Atlanta and Orlando for home court advantage in the first round. The Celtics have won 3 of their last 4 games including a 102-98 home win over Orlando Wednesday night. The Celtics were without Allen, Pietrus, and Rondo, but Orlando was playing without Dwight Howard.
The 37-25 Atlanta Hawks, coached by Larry Drew can’t be seeded higher than #5 or lower than #6 in the East. However, if they finish with a better record than Boston, they will get home court advantage in that series. The Celtics do hold the tiebreaker though. The Hawks lead Orlando by a game for the #5 spot. The Hawks have gone 6-2 in April including two wins in a row. Atlanta won at home Wednesday against Detroit 116-84.
Boston won both previous match-ups this season, both by three points or less. The Celtics won 79-76 March 19 in Atlanta, and 88-86 in overtime April 11 in Boston.

The Boston Celtics shouldn’t be a ten point road underdog against any team. However, these aren’t really the Celtics, even though they will be wearing the green and white uniforms. This is more like watching the Maine Red Claws of the D-League. It is clear the Celtics don’t really care too much if they get home court advantage against either the Hawks or the Magic. A veteran team like Boston can win on the road in the playoffs. The Hawks should roll against a depleted Celtics team.
