The college football opening lines are out for week 4. Make sure to check out our college football betting lines page or reference the table below to compare odds from various sportsbooks. There are a bunch of great games on tap, and here’s a quick look at a few of them.
Miami (FL) (-3) at Pittsburgh – These two teams meet Thursday night in an ACC/Big East match-up. The visiting Hurricanes opened as 3 point road favorites, but some early action has pushed the line to 3 ½. The Hurricanes have speed and like to air it out, while the Panthers have toughness and love to pound the football. Should be an interesting game.
Alabama (-7) at Arkansas – The biggest game of the weekend takes place Saturday afternoon. ‘Bama opened at 6 points but early money on the Tide has moved the line up to 7/7.5. Ryan Mallett threw a late touchdown at Georgia and the Hogs came away with a tough road win. Now they welcome the defending national champs to Fayetteville. Last year the Tide rolled the Razorbacks, 35-7.
Boise State (-16 ½) vs. Oregon State – The Broncos opened as 17 point home favorites but the line has moved slightly down. ESPN College Game Day is set to be in Boise on Saturday. This is Boise State’s last chance to make a major impression on the minds of voters. For the Beavers, this is their second game against a top 5 opponent. The Rodgers brothers need to play big if Oregon State wants to hang around.
Stanford (-4 ½) at Notre Dame – The Cardinal came out as a 2 ½ road favorite, but early money on Stanford has pushed the line to 4 or 4 ½ points, depending upon the book. Stanford slaughtered Wake Forest last week, while Notre Dame lost to Michigan State in overtime on a fake field goal. Last year Stanford outlasted the Irish at home, 45-38.
Arizona (-6 ½) vs. California – What a huge win for Arizona! Fresh off beating a top 10 team, the Wildcats opened as a 6 ½ point home favorite against Cal. Iowa found out how difficult it is to play in the desert, and now the Golden Bears get their chance. They’ll have to play much better than they did at Nevada last week. Cal won last year’s meeting, 24-16.
Texas (-16 ½) vs. UCLA – A Big 12/Pac 10 showdown that takes place Saturday afternoon. The Longhorns opened at 14 ½ but books have already jumped that up to 16 ½ points. Texas won in Lubbock last Saturday night, but it wasn’t easy. The Bruins thumped then-ranked Houston, which surprised some people. UCLA looked embarrassingly bad the week before against Stanford, but they bounced back and took it to Houston pretty good. Do they have enough to compete with a much bigger, more talented Texas team, though?
LSU (-6 ½) vs. West Virginia – This is another big non-conference battle. The home Tigers opened at 6 ½ points and some books have started to post the game at 7. Each team has taken care of business so far, but neither one has looked good doing it. The Mountaineers have some quick playmakers and a unique 3-3-5 defense. The Tigers are the team that nobody is talking about in the SEC West. They have the talent and speed to play with anyone, but can they execute?
Oregon (-10.5) at Arizona State – The Ducks opened as a 9 ½ point road favorite, but now books are listing the game at 10 ½ or 11 points. Oregon’s offense is currently averaging better than a point per minute, which is ridiculous. So is having a game tying PAT blocked, which is what happened to the Sun Devils in Madison, Wisconsin. They lost to the Badgers, 20-19. Last year the Ducks won easily, 44-21.
