Oakland is 0-7 SU and 3-4 ATS through seven games of the 2014 season, as it hits the road for a second consecutive week after suffering a 23-13 defeat to the Cleveland Browns as 6.5-point underdogs last Sunday. The Raiders have been competitive during a three-game stretch since Tony Sparano took over for Dennis Allen, which is important to consider when making your Week 9 pro football picks, but it has been out-gained in two of those affairs. Oakland is 1-3 SU and 3-0-1 ATS as underdogs of 10 or more points the last two-plus seasons, with no edge in terms of the betting total (2-2 Over/Under).
The Raiders must stiffen up defensively in critical moments, which can’t be ignored when looking over the pro football odds, as they’ve allowed opponents to convert 48.5 percent of their third down opportunities. Oakland has found a major weapon in receiver Andre Holmes, who has caught 17 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns in his last four contests. Offensively, the team has been held to 14 or fewer points in all but one game, as first-round selection Derek Carr still grows into the position under center.
Seattle snapped a two-game losing streak in picking up a 13-9 victory over the Carolina Panthers as six-point road favorites last week, while going UNDER the betting total of 44.5. The Seahawks are still performing at a high level on the defensive end, as they rank behind just four teams in giving up 316.1 yards per game, but that number isn’t near the unit’s number during its championship season of a year ago. Seattle is 7-0 SU and 3-4 ATS as favorites of 10 or more points since 2012.
The Seahawks are still trying to find some consistency offensively, as they traded away multi-purpose wide receiver Percy Harvin, while running back Marshawn Lynch is averaging just 62.0 yards on the ground over his last six games played. Seattle will need a big game from dual-threat quarterback Russell Wilson to cover this number, as he’s capable of putting up 400 yards of total offense in any matchup.
Sports bettors will likely back the Seahawks due to the home team being 7-0 ATS in the last seven installments in this West Coast series.
