A wild week of betting has moved the opening numbers. Navigate to our pro football betting lines page to see the opening line for each game, and where the line sits for a variety of books. Carolina (-3) vs. Washington – The Carolina Panthers opened as 3 point favorites against Washington but over the course of the week the line has been pulled down to between 1 and 2 ½ points. The Panthers have been better than expected but are still well short of being a good team. The Redskins, like the Panthers, have exceeded expectations but are coming off a tough home loss to Philly.
Tennessee (-3) vs. Houston – The Titans started as 3 point favorites against Houston, and while most books are still posting the opening number, a few have gone down slightly to 2 ½. Tennessee is coming off a bye after getting trounced in Pittsburgh. The Texans hope to have Andre Johnson back. Since losing Johnson, Houston has dropped its last two games and needs to get back on track in order to stay in the AFC South race.
Detroit (-3 ½) vs. Atlanta – The Lions, fresh off their first loss of the season, opened as 4 ½ point favorites against Atlanta and the line been moved down to 3 or 3 ½. Detroit’s run defense looked soft against the Niners; maybe the defensive line should stop reading its press. The Falcons got a good test from Carolina but managed to wear down the Panthers and get the win. I think everyone is waiting for the postgame handshake between Schwartz and Mike Smith.
Oakland (-3 ½) vs. Kansas City – The Raiders and Chiefs are set to renew their rivalry this Sunday in Oakland. The Raiders started as 3 ½ point favorites and most books are still posting the opening number. Kansas City is coming off a bye, and after a rough start to the season, is currently riding a two game winning streak. Oakland won again, hanging on to beat Cleveland. The passing of Al Davis will likely motivate this team throughout the whole season.
Pittsburgh (-4) at Arizona – The Steelers opened as 4 point road favorites, which is where most books are still listing the game. Pittsburgh has been uninspiring this season; they snuck by a poor Jacksonville team 17-13 at home this past week. Lucky for Steelers fans, the team is traveling to play one of the League’s worst teams. The Cardinals have struggled all year. It’s still early but Kevin Kolb might not be the answer. Regardless, Larry Fitzgerald is an incredible wide receiver and the Pittsburgh secondary will have its hands full.
New Orleans (-14) vs. Indianapolis – The Saints opened as 14 point favorites and now books are anywhere between 13 ½ and 15 points. New Orleans has been tough this year, but they dropped an important game in Tampa Bay last week. The Colts have been terrible all year and nothing changed last week as Indy lost by 10 in Cincinnati. This game could very well end up being the most lopsided of the weekend.
