The Oakland Raiders have yet to win a game this season but will find itself just 4-point underdogs to a 4-1 visiting Arizona Cardinals team. If the Cardinals win as NFL odds favor it to, the team will have its best start in 38 seasons. The hosting Oakland Raiders meanwhile, have yet to win a game this season.
QB Derek Carr has looked great, but the Raiders have not. Oakland is 3-1 at home this year, and ranks 22nd in the NFL in passing yardage (223 per game) but rookie QB Derek Carr from Fresno State has already thrown for over 1,000 yards on the season with eight TDs to five INTs.
In the month of October, he’s been better still, growing as the season goes on. Carr has posted a 107.7 QB rating in the first two games this month, with a 52.9 percent completion rato and 4 TDs to 1 INT.
Carr also doesn’t exactly have a stable full of receivers. The Raiders top-two receivers, James Jones and Andre Holmes, have combined for nearly 600 yards and six TDs, but the rest of the WRs have managed just three TDs this season. Darren McFadden has also continued his mediocrity in the backfield, having rushed for 231 yards with just a 3.9 yard per carry average.
Since Oakland has few backs with any potential, Carr is second on the team in rushing with 68 yards and an 8.5 yard per carry average.
The Cardinals have continued to win despite a strong offense. That’s primarily due to opposing teams’ lack of success rushing the ball. Arizona ranks 3rd in the NFL in opponents rushing yardage, surrendering just 75.8 yards per game this season. However, it has come at the cost of some very poor play from its secondary, which surrenders a league-worst 309 yards per game. The Cardinals won at home 30-20 last week against the Redskins and began the season with three straight victories before losing badly to the Broncos in Week 5.
