Despite being 3-3, the Chicago Bears have yet to win at Soldier Field. NFL oddsmakers expect that to change this weekend, setting the line 3.5-points in favor of the home team. The Bears won 27-13 against the Atlanta Falcons last week, as Jay Cutler threw for 381 yards, his high as a Chicago Bear.
Matt Forte also had a great game, rushing for 157 yards and two TDs. The Bears defense was solid, holding the Falcons to 287 yards and just one TD in the game.
Bears coach Marc Trestman said, “We’ve seen signs in the first six weeks of the season of the type of team we can be and the way we can play the game.”
Chicago has just not been good at home though, averaging just 26.5 points in Chitown. The Bears haven’t started 0-3 at home since the 2004 season, but that 10-year streak could end this year with NFL odds setting the moneyline betting at -175 for the Bears.
One thing that has plagued the Bears has been Cutler’s inconsistency and erratic passing. He’s thrown nine TDs on the season and has a 104.6 passer rating on the road. But at Soldier Field, Cutler has thrown four of his six INTs and has just an 84.7 rating. In the second half at home, his rating is 58.1. Forte is 7th in the NFL in rushing yardage and leads the league in receptions with 46. In the Bears last matchup against the Dolphins, Forte had 97 yards and a TD as the Bears won 16-0.
The Dolphins rank 6th in the NFL in rushing yardage due to Lamar Miller and Knowshon Moreno both having solid seasons. QB Ryan Tannehill has been successful rushing the ball, too, leading the team with 6.4 yards per carry.
Miller has racked up 16 runs for a first down and has 330 yards on the season. Moreno has 148, but is just behind Miller with 4.8 yards per carry. Between Miller and Moreno, the Dolphins average 165.3 yards per game.
