New Orleans is traveling to Chicago a day early this week, as it looks to win its fifth consecutive game to open the 2013 NFL campaign, including a 38-17 blowout victory over the Miami Dolphins as seven-point home favorites in Week 4. The Saints are certainly feeling good about themselves due to the return of head coach Sean Payton, as they were winless at this point of the season in 2012. New Orleans is 4-2 SU and 5-1 ATS against NFC North division opponents the last two-plus seasons, with the OVER going 4-2 in that situation.
The Saints have one of the more explosive offenses in the league, with wide receiver Marques Colston being one of the main weapons, as he’s caught 21 passes for 298 yards this season. New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees threw for 413 yards and four touchdowns against the Dolphins, while he’s managed to complete 66.9 percent of his passes. Just to put Payton’s return in perspective, Brees connected on just 57.6 percent of his passes in the first four games a year ago.
Chicago had its season-opening three-game win streak snapped last time out, as it suffered a 40-32 setback to the Detroit Lions as three-point road underdogs last Sunday. The Bears have gone OVER the betting total in all four of their contests, which can’t be ignored when looking over the pro football odds page. Defensively, the team faces a major challenge in this week’s opponent, as the Saints average 27 points and 419.5 yards per game. Chicago is 4-10 SU and 4-9-1 ATS as an underdog over the last two-plus seasons, with no clear edge in the betting total (7-7 Over/Under).
The Bears are 4-0 when facing Brees, which is important to consider when making your NFL betting picks Sunday, as he’s thrown for 955 yards with seven touchdowns and six interceptions. Chicago needs signal-caller Jay Cutler to regain his confidence, as he’s completing a career-high 64.2 percent of his passes, but has also turned the football over eight times.
Sports bettors will likely back the Bears due to the home team being 4-0-2 ATS in the last six meetings in this series.
