San Diego is coming off a huge 30-21 victory over the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks as 4.5-point home underdogs last week, while going OVER the betting total of 45. The Chargers will need someone to step up in the absence of Ryan Mathews over the next month, as he recovers from an MCL sprain, but Donald Brown and Danny Woodhead have demonstrated the ability to be effective. Offensively, the team is getting tremendous production out of quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates, who have connected 13 times for 177 yards. San Diego is 3-5 SU and 4-3 ATS as road underdogs of three or fewer points the last two-plus seasons.
The Chargers should be able to move the football in this affair, considering the Bills have allowed their first two opponents to throw for a combined 590 yards, while opposing tight ends have caught 16 passes. San Diego will need to control both lines of scrimmage, as Buffalo ranks sixth in the league in gaining 153 yards per game on the ground, while its opponent this week gives up just 83 running yards per contest.
Buffalo is one of a few surprise teams to start 2-0 this season, which is important to consider when making your Week 3 NFL betting picks, while going UNDER the betting total in each of those affairs. The Bills must do a better job in the red zone, as they scored just a single touchdown in six trips inside that area in last week’s 29-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins as 1.5-point home favorites in Week 2. Boobie Dixon, Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller should find room to run against a team that ranks 15th in the league in stopping the run. Buffalo is 5-1 SUATS as home favorites of three or fewer points the last two-plus seasons.
The Bills simply need signal-caller E.J. Manuel to manage the game, as he’s thrown for 375 yards, while throwing just a single interception. Buffalo is 4-2 in Manuel’s six home starts—completing 62.6 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and three interceptions for a 92.8 passer rating.
Sports bettors will likely play the total, as the UNDER is 4-0 in the Chargers’ last four road games.
