Dallas forced six turnovers en route to a 36-31 victory over the New York Giants as three-point home favorites in Week 1, which was far different than the franchise forcing just 16 during the 2012 campaign. The Cowboys shouldn’t celebrate too much about the effort, as they allowed 478 total yards, which is important to consider when making your pro football picks Sunday. Defensively, the team still has one of the better players in the league in DeMarcus Ware, who must be accounted for on every play. Dallas is 2-8 ATS after playing a division game the last two-plus seasons, with the UNDER going 7-2-1 in that situation.
The Cowboys have many weapons to challenge the Chiefs defense, with wide receivers Miles Austin and Dez Bryant, as quarterback Tony Romo completed 20 passes in his only career start in this series in 2009. He connected 10 times with Austin, who finished with a career-high 250 receiving yards. Dallas may elect to pound running back DeMarco Murray as the game goes on, as he finished with 125 total yards versus the Giants.
Kansas City opened the Andy Reid era with an impressive 28-2 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars as four-point road favorites, with new quarterback Alex Smith completing 21 of 34 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns. The Chiefs may not be familiar with the Cowboys, but Reid certainly is, as he compiled a 17-12 record against him during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East division. Kansas City is 1-5 ATS as favorites over the last two-plus seasons, with the UNDER going 4-2 in those six opportunities.
The Chiefs are expected to take care of the football this season with the addition of Smith, as he’s thrown the fewest interceptions in the NFL among quarterbacks with at least 1,000 pass attempts since 2010. Kansas City leads the league in total defense after a week of play, but that performance came against potentially the worst offense in the AFC. On the defensive end, Justin Houston is someone to watch throughout, as he recorded three of the team’s six sacks in the regular season opener.
Sports bettors will likely back the Chiefs due to the Cowboys being 1-4 ATS off a win against a division rival since 2011.
