Even mediocre teams like the Tennessee Titans appear as powerhouses when facing off against this struggling Jacksonville Jaguars team. The Jags are winless in eight attempts, and NFL oddsmakers at 5dimes aren’t giving the team any better chance in Sunday’s affair at Tennessee, favoring the home team Titans by 14-points.
The Titans ended a three-game losing streak last week with a 28-21 win over the St. Louis Rams and Chris Johnson appeared to be the Johnson of old, rushing for 150 yards and two TDs in the victory, as Tennessee amassed 198 rushing yards in the contest. It was a marked improvement over the mere 80.3 yards per game it generated during the three-game losing streak.
Titans coach Mike Munchak said that was his “formula to win.” It likely will prove successful against Jacksonville, too, as the Jaguars have had no success stopping the rush this year, allowing a league-worst 161.8 yards per game.
Because the Jags defensive line is so porous, teams aren’t bothering to air it out against Jacksonville, and a 230.5 yard per game average in the air is more a reflection of teams desire to carve up the defense on the ground.
It doesn’t matter much when the Jags are so bad offensively themselves. The team averages just 66.4 yards per game on the ground and Maurice Jones-Drew is a shadow of his former self, averaging just 3.2 yards per carry on the season.
Chad Henne has been a slight improvement over Blaine Gabbert; well, a big improvement, but that was starting from pretty low ground. Henne still has a very poor QB rating of 75.3, but again, Gabbert’s was 36.0.
Jacksonville may not win a game this season, and this likely isn’t their first chance at nabbing one with Justin Blackmon suspended for the contest.
