Both the Seahawks and 49ers have gotten off to disappointing 2-4 starts as they renew their rivalry in Santa Clara Thursday.

Both the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers are 2-4 this season. The two rivals are desperate for a win as they meet Thursday in Santa Clara. Both teams are behind the 4-2 Arizona Cardinals and 2-3 St. Louis Rams in the NFC West.

Seattle leads the series 18-15 against San Francisco. The Seahawks have won 5 of the last six games in the series, including 3 straight. Seattle won 19-3 last year in Santa Clara and 17-7 in Seattle. These two teams met in the NFC Championship game two seasons ago. Seattle will host San Francisco November 22.

Seattle is coached by Pete Carroll. The Seahawks have home wins over the Chicago Bears 26-0 and Detroit Lions 13-10. Seattle has road losses at the Rams 34-31 in overtime, Green Bay Packers 27-17 and last week at the Cincinnati Bengals 27-24 in overtime. Last week, Seattle hosted the undefeated Carolina Panthers. The Panthers escaped with a 27-23 upset win.

Seattle was a 7 point favorite against Carolina and the total was 41. The Seahawks led 10-7 at halftime and expanded the lead to 20-7 in the third. However, Carolina scored to make it 20-14 going into the fourth. The Seahawks added a field goal early in the fourth make it 23-14. The Panthers scored with 3:55 left but missed the extra point to make it 23-20 Seahawks. After a Seattle punt, Carolina took over at their own 20 with 2:20 left. The Panthers drove all the way down to the Seattle 26. Cam Newton threw the go ahead touchdown to a wide open tight end Greg Olsen with 32 seconds due to blown coverage by the Seahawks vaunted Legion of Boom secondary. Seattle was unable to get past their own 39 on their last drive before time ran out. Dating back to the Super Bowl last season, it was the fifth straight loss for the Seahawks where they had a lead in the fourth quarter. Seattle is 1-4-1 ATS and the total is 3-3 this season.

San Francisco is coached by Jim Tomsula. The 49ers have home wins over the Minnesota Vikings 20-3 and last week over the Baltimore Ravens 25-20. The Baltimore win snapped a four game losing streak for the 49ers. San Francisco has road losses at the Pittsburgh Steelers 43-18, Cardinals 47-7, and New York Giants 30-27, along with a home loss to the Packers 17-3.

San Francisco was a 2.5 point underdog against Baltimore and the total was 43.5. The 49ers took a 6-0 lead in the first with 2 field goals. San Francisco would expand the lead to 16-6 by halftime. The 49ers would never trail in the second half and led by as many as 13. In the fourth the 49ers scored a touchdown but missed the two point conversion to make it 25-13. Baltimore pulled to within 5 points with 5:14 left. After a San Francisco punt, Baltimore took over at their own 20 with just over a minute left. The Ravens got all the way to the 49ers 35 yard line and were unable to complete the Hail Mary despite having two chances. Baltimore had the only 2 turnovers of the game.

Seattle is 5-0 ATS in Thursday games, 5-1-1 in week seven, 4-1 against teams with winning records 4-1-1 against NFC West teams, 6-2-2 after allowing more than 350 total yards, 17-8-1 after an ATS loss, 18-40-2 in October, 1-5 against NFC teams, and 1-6-1 overall. The Seahawks are 6-0-1 ATS against the 49ers recently.

San Francisco is 9-2 in October, 2-5-1 against NFC teams, 3-8-1 overall, 2-6 at home, 1-3-1 after allowing less than 90 rushing yards, 1-4 in Thursday games and against teams with losing road records, 1-5-1 after gaining 350 total yards or more, 1-5 after passing for more than 250 yards, 2-10 on grass, 1-6-1 in week seven, 0-4-1 after allowing more than 350 total yards or more, and against NFC West teams. The last 4 games in this series have gone under the total.

Although Russell Wilson has taken every snap, he has also been sacked 26 times. That isn’t even counting the hits he has has taken while throwing the ball or as a runner. San Francisco should be able to get to him as they have 19 sacks already this season. Still, the 49ers struggle on offense and I like the Seahawks to win on the road but six points seems like a lot.
