It’s a no-brainer. The Dallas Cowboys, who tend to look at talent and not character, are interested in Tank Johnson. Johnson, who was released by the Bears a few days ago after yet another run-in with the law, is a young defensive tackle with good moves, energy and quickness. He’s currently serving a suspension for previous legal problems.
Johnson is a Jerry Jones type of guy. Jones has taken on other talented but troublesome players, including T.O. and Charles Haley.
New coach Wade Phillips, who takes over this year for Bill Parcells, is said to like players who have done well in the 4- 3. Phillips uses the 3- 4, which demands that players used to the 4- 3 utilize their speed and quickness.
The Bills and New Orleans are also said to be considering the Tank.
So, would you take a chance on the guy? In a way, the NFL, which doesn’t really have a guaranteed contract, makes it easier for most teams to take such a risk, since they can usually jettison them if they’re problematic.
