NFL- Tank is Gone, What About Bears “D?”

With the Chicago Bears waiving defensive tackle Tank Johnson what will Lovie Smith do to bolster the team’s defense? In three years and 46 games with the Bears, Johnson had 63 tackles, 52 solo and 9 sacks.
If Johnson didn’t have a string of off-field problems, which started long before he ever made it to the pros, he’d be invaluable. His ability to go upfield with amazing power and force made him especially disruptive to offenses. Add to that his skilled pass rush through the interior, which could make heads spin, and you had a player who offensive lines found tough to neutralize.

DT Anthony Adams has been added to the Bears. In four years and 58 games with San Francisco he accumulated 134 tackles, 98 solo and 6 sacks. Adams is small but powerful with volatile energy. Little note was made of his signing but with Johnson gone, it could end up being a big deal.

The Bears also have sound talent in defensive tackle Tommie Harris. But Harris is still trying to recover from a major hamstring injury that he suffered late in the 2006 season. In three years and 44 games with the Bears, he’s accumulated 106 tackles, 82 solo and 11.5 sacks. In minicamps he has looked good.

A Harris-Adams DT alignments could be a major one-two punch in the gut of any offensive line.
