Seattle has dropped its first two road games against the spread and will be traveling to the Meadowlands, a place that has seen the team win just once out of seven tries. The good news for the Seahawks this time around is this will be their first try inside MetLife Stadium. A key in this game will be the offensive line play against a ferocious pass rush that the Giants generate with their talented defensive linemen, as the team allowed 14 sacks in the first three weeks, only to keep their signal-callers off the carpet last week. Last week’s protection certainly helped in allowing quarterback Tarvaris Jackson to throw for a career-high 319 yards. Seattle is 3-16 ATS on the road and the ‘over’ is 13-6 in that span.
The Seahawks have been outscored 67-13 in the first half of games this season, but are hoping last week’s performance will give Jackson confidence heading into a new week. He tallied a 2-1 record as a starter against New York during his time in Minnesota. His main target will likely be Sidney Rice, who has three touchdowns among his 15 catches in four career games against the Giants.
New York has won and covered three consecutive games since dropping a 28-14 season-opening contest to the Washington Redskins. The Giants have been out-gained in all four games, but that’s not likely to matter when facing a team that they defeated by a 41-7 score last year as seven-point road favorites. Offensively, the team seems to be coming together, especially at the wide receiver position. “I think it is just that we are clicking now,” commented Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks. “Everyone is getting involved with the offense and people are stepping up.” New York is 1-4 ATS as a home favorite of 7.5 to 10 points.
The Giants want to get their run game going this week, as it ranks 24th in the league, averaging less than 80 yards a contest. New York may find that hard to do against a rush defense that is giving up just 3.2 yards a carry. On the other side of the ball, quarterback Eli Manning has been at his best during the fourth quarter, coming in with an NFL-best 139.5 fourth-quarter passer rating. He has also taken care of the football after throwing 25 interceptions this year, coming in with 90 straight passes without throwing a pick.
Bettors will likely back the Giants due to their 26-12 ATS mark following a straight-up win, while the Seahawks are 7-20-1 ATS when playing a winning team.
