Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is enjoying a fantastic season through seven games

Green Bay has a 5-0 all-time record against the San Diego Chargers and will look to remain as the only undefeated team in the NFL Sunday.  The Packers are 4-1 off the bye week under head coach Mike McCarthy.  Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is enjoying an MVP-type year, leading the entire league with a 71.5 completion percentage and 20 touchdowns.  “I always enjoy coming back to California,” commented Rodgers.  “It’ll be nice to play down there in San Diego.”  The franchise has won 13 consecutive games, including the playoffs, which serves as the longest in team history.  Green Bay is 29-14 ATS over the last two-plus seasons, while the ‘under’ is 23-21 in that span.

The Packers have outscored their opponents by a 230-141 margin, a point differential that ranks second in the league to the Detroit Lions.  Green Bay does lead all teams in scoring 32.9 points per game, while being the only team to score 24 points or more in each contest this season.  Rodgers’ brilliance should not be understated, as his 125.7 passer rating through seven games ranks No. 3 in the league since 1970.  Green Bay has scored points on 27 of 28 red-zone trips, ranking second with a 96.4 percentage.

San Diego comes home off a three-game road trip that included consecutive losses to the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs.  The Chargers have been underdogs just once this year, dropping a 35-21 contest to the New England Patriots when getting 6.5 points on the road.  Quarterback Philip Rivers hasn’t been himself this season, throwing an NFL-high 11 interceptions, while his passer rating checks in at No. 19 in the league.  “We all know Philip is one of the most competitive people that I’ve ever known,” commented Chargers head coach Norv Turner.  “I think he’s pressing.”  San Diego is 10-9 ATS at home the past two-plus campaigns and the ‘under’ is 11-9 in those contests.

The Chargers still rank No. 6 in both total offense and defense this season, with the stop unit creating four turnovers last week and holding one of the best running teams to just 2.9 yards per carry.  “Defensively, we played good so long to keep us in the game and give us a chance,” commented Turner in practice this week.  A short week is ahead in preparing for the defending Super Bowl champions, as the team is dealing with key injuries, including Ryan Mathews (groin), Malcolm Floyd (hip) and Vincent Jackson (hamstring).

Bettors will likely back the Chargers due to their 5-0 ATS mark as a home underdog, but the Packers are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings.
