Colts Jets NFL Preview
New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez will play an important part in Sunday's outcome against the Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City snapped a four-game losing streak last week with a 10-3 win over the Chicago Bears as nine-point road underdogs.  The Chiefs still have a shot in the AFC West divisional race, sitting two games back of the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders.  “We’re coming on at the right time,” commented Chiefs coach Todd Haley stated.  In this particular series, the Chiefs have lost two consecutive meetings, including a 28-24 loss as 14-point road underdogs on Oct. 26, 2008.  Kansas City is 7-2 ATS as an underdog this year.

The Chiefs are just 3-18 in the Eastern Time Zone over the past six seasons.  “We’re going on the road to a hostile environment, much like last week,” stated Haley during practice this week.  Kansas City’s defense has been solid against the run for most of the year, allowing only one running back to rush over the century mark.  After a dozen games, the defense ranks No. 16 in the NFL in yards allowed per game, while sitting 18th in giving up 22.3 points per game.

New York is still in the playoff race and can ill afford a slip up in this matchup, entering with a two-game winning streak that includes a 34-19 win over the Washington Redskins as three-point road favorites last week.  “We’re a team that just wants to win and get in the playoffs and see what happens,” stated Jets coach Rex Ryan.  Sunday’s contest will be the 34th meeting between the two franchises, with the series tied 16-16-1.  New York’s offense is ranked 26th in the league in gaining 310.8 yards per game, but the defense makes up the different in sitting seventh in the league in yards allowed.

The Jets are hoping that running back Shonn Greene can build on last week’s 88-yard performance and three touchdowns last week versus the Redskins, but it can’t be counted on.  New York ranks 24th in the league in gaining 100.4 rushing yards per game, facing a Chiefs defense that allows 130.3 yards per game on the ground.  Third-year quarterback Mark Sanchez just became the fifth player in the Super Bowl era to win 30 career games under center in his first three NFL seasons.

Bettors will likely back the Jets due to their 5-1 ATS mark after scoring more than 30 points, while the Chiefs are 0-5 ATS against AFC East division opponents.
