The NFL week 2 betting lines have seen some movement. Make sure to check our NFL betting lines page to compare odds from various sportsbooks. Below are a few match-ups worth paying attention to along with where the lines have moved and are today.
Tennessee (-5 ½) vs. Pittsburgh – The Titans opened as 4 ½ point favorites, the line moved up to 5 ½ early on, and it has stayed there or come back down to 5. The public is playing the Titans at 3:1. Vince Young is 9-2 since taking over again last season. Byron Leftwich might be available, but Dennis Dixon will get the start for the Steelers. The Pittsburgh defense was strong against Atlanta, but now they have to corral Chris Johnson.
Minnesota (-5 ½) vs. Miami – The Vikes opened as 6 point home favorites but now the line is scattered anywhere from 5 to 6 points. The Vikes are getting the public’s plays at over 70%. Brett Favre needs someone to step up and fill the void left by Sidney Rice. Adrian Peterson looked energized against New Orleans. Miami counters with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. The two running backs are going against one of the League’s best front 4s.
Atlanta (-6 ½) vs. Arizona – The Falcons opened as 7 point favorites, and despite getting 75% of public action, the line has come down due to some sharp money. Atlanta’s offense must find a way to convert touchdowns instead of field goals. Arizona snuck out of St. Louis with a win. Steve Breaston had a big game and Larry Fitzgerald is always dangerous. Tim Hightower can’t keep fumbling the ball away.
Indianapolis (-5) vs. New York Giants – The Colts opened as 5 ½ point favorites and the line has come down to 5 points after Bob Sanders’ injury was announced. That seems to have offset the public playing the Colts at over 80%, or wiseguys hitting the Giants, or both. Manning vs. Manning. Indy looks to avoid an 0-2 start, which would be the first since Peyton’s rookie season. The Giants’ defense had 5 takeaways against Carolina.
Oakland (-3) vs. St. Louis – This line has seen a lot of movement. Oakland opened as 6 point home favorites, and now many books are listing the game at 3. The squares are playing the Raiders at just under 60%, which means the sharps are playing the Rams pretty solidly. Robert Gallery is out, which definitely hurts the Raider offensive line. St Louis’ Sam Bradford looks for his first career win.
San Diego (-7) vs. Jacksonville – The Chargers opened as 8 ½ point favorites, but sharp money has brought the line down to 7 points. It looks like Vincent Jackson is done in San Diego, but who will take his place? The Charger defense was stellar against KC. Jacksonville started off the season with a win over Denver. David Garrard was efficient and Maurice Jones-Drew ran well. That usually equals wins for the Jags.
New Orleans (-5 ½) at San Francisco – New Orleans opened as a 4 ½ point road favorite and the line has gone up to 5 ½ or 6 points, depending upon the site. The public is on the side of the Saints at nearly 90%. The Saints weren’t overly impressive against Minnesota, but they still beat a good team. The defense was particularly good, but the offense seemed out of rhythm. However, they were nowhere near as bad as San Francisco. The Niners got throttled at Seattle, 31-6. Recent reports have identified anonymous fingers pointing at offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye. Mike Singletary is furious about certain people leaking stories to the press. He smells a rat. But many bettors see a sinking ship in San Fran. Will the Niners rally together or fall apart? The course of San Francisco’s season will likely be determined by this game.
