Detroit suffered a 5-4 loss to Cleveland on Sunday afternoon and will begin a four-game homestand tonight.  The Tigers will look to star Miguel Cabrera to lead the team offensively, entering tonight’s game having hit safely in 25 of his 26 games during his career against the Yankees.  He enters tonight’s action hitting .372 with 10 home runs and 23 RBI versus the Bronx Bombers.  The starting staff will also aim to continue its hot pitching in the early going, posting a quality start in 17 of its last 24 games.  Detroit is 6-12 versus right-handed starters.

Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander is 2-3 with a 3.64 ERA in six starts this season and is making his 30th start of his career during the month of May.  The right-hander has posted an 18-8 record and 2.75 ERA in his previous 29 starts during the month.  Verlander is also an even 2-2 with a 2.27 ERA and 32 strikeouts in his last five starts versus the Yankees.  He is also tops among all active American League pitchers with 48 wins at home since the start of the 2006 season, compiling a 48-21 record in his 84 starts at Comerica Park during the stretch.

Bettors will likely back the Tigers due to their 38-18 record as a home favorite, while the Yankees are 1-7 in their last eight games as an underdog.

  1. Detroit has lost 6 straight games (now 7) to the Mariners and Indians……who’s backing them against the Yankees in a minus money line ?? Not me….CC on deck should make it 8 straight loses for the vastly over rated Tigers.
