The 43-13 Chicago Bulls, coached by Tom Thibodeau, have the best record in basketball. The Bulls lead the Central Division by 9 games over the Indiana Pacers. Chicago has a 3 game lead over Miami for best record in the East, and leads San Antonio by 2.5 games for best record in the league. This is despite being without All-star point guard Derrick Rose, the reigning league MVP. Rose has missed the last 12 games with a groin injury, but is probable Sunday against the Knicks. The Bulls beat Boston Thursday night 93-86 in Chicago to snap a 2 game losing streak. Chicago hadn’t lost two games in a row during the regular season since February of 2011 before this week.
The 28-27 New York Knicks are 10-3 under interim coach Mike Woodson. Woodson took over the team last month when coach Mike D’Antoni resigned. The Knicks are currently in the 8th and final playoff spot in the East. The Knicks hold a narrow half game lead over Milwaukee for the #8 seed. New York won at Orlando Thursday night 96-80.
Chicago has beaten New York 3 straight times including a pair of narrow wins this season. The Bulls won at New York 105-102 February 2, and at home 104-99 March 12. Both of these teams have won games despite injuries to key players. That will certainly help them in the playoffs. Chicago is the healthier team as it looks like Rose will play for the first time in a month. I like Chicago to win against a banged-up Knicks team. Yes, New York won Thursday night on the road against a dysfunctional Orlando team, but Orlando is not Chicago.
