No. 6 seeded Notre Dame prevailed as 1 point underdogs against a tough No. 14 seeded S.F. Austin Lumberjacks team to advance to the Sweet 6.
The Fighting Irish will face No. 7 Wisconsin and are 1 point favorites over the Badgers in the game which will air at 7:30 Eastern on TBS.
In the win over SFA, The Fighting Irish shot 56.9 percent from the field while putting three starters in double figures. Six-foot-ten senior forward Zach Auguste came up big with 15 rebounds and 16 points on 8 of 19 shooting. He has had a double-double in four of his past five games, and he had a 22 rebound, 19 point game in the 84-79 victory over the Duke Blue Devils on Mar. 10.
Auguste averaged 14.3 points, 10.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game this season for the Irish, and he really made a big jump after averaging 13 and six a year ago.
Demetrius Jackson also had a big game against SFA. The 6’1” junior guard scored 18 points on 6 of 8 shooting while knocking down two threes, coming up with three boards, two assists and a block. He played 38 minutes in the win and he played all 40 in the opening round win over Michigan. Jackson averaged 15.5 points, 4.7 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game this season. Jackson shot just 33 percent from behind the arc on 4.7 attempts per game, but he was good for 45 percent overall on 11.9 field goal attempts per night.

Junior forward V.J. Beachem is also vital for Notre Dame. He had 15 points and seven rebounds in the win over SFA and he was 7 of 7 from the field for 18 points in the win over Michigan. He shot 46.5 percent from the field this year and 43.6 percent from three on 5.5 attempts per game. He has hit a three in the past seven Notre Dame games.
Wisconsin prevailed over No. 10 Pittsburgh in the round of 64 and defeated No. 2 Xavier 66-63 in the round of 32 to advance to this Sweet 16 matchup. Six-foot-four junior guard Bronson Koenig had a big game, hitting 6 of 12 from three-point range en route to 20 points, seven rebounds and an assist on 6 of 15 shooting. Koenig struggled badly in the opening round loss to Pitt, when he hit just 1 of 8 from the field to finish with two points. He averaged 13.3 points per game this season while shooting 39.6 percent from three-point range on 6.1 attempts per game.

Junior forward Nigel Hayes had a poor game too. He connected on just 2 of 10 from the field and missed all five of his threes to finish with six points and eight rebounds. Hayes shot just 3 of 17 from the field against Pitt, scoring 12 points to go with five rebounds. He has shot just 36.9 percent from the field this season, and his low efficiency puts a cap on this Wisconsin team since he is the team’s leading scorer and biggest minute player.
Wisconsin is just 1 point underdogs in this game, but Notre Dame seems like a much stronger team. The Irish should be able to take care of matters on the interior and its defense can slow the Badgers further still.
