In the loss to Kansas, West Virginia got 31 points on 9 of 12 shooting (and 13 of 15 free throws) from 6’9” junior forward Devin Williams. Williams averaged nearly a double-double this game for the Mountaineers with 13.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 0.9 steals/blocks per game. He had scored just 35 points in the four games prior to that 33-point outburst, but he is capable of having nights when he draws a lot of contact. Williams has averaged 10 rebounds per game over the Mountaineers’ last five contests and West Virginia won all but the last of those games.

Jaysean Paige led West Virginia in scoring this season at 13.9 points per game, while also being one of five Mountaineers to average at least a steal per game. Paige is a 6’2” guard in his senior season and he shot 33.1 percent from three-point range on 3.8 triples attempted per game. Paige had scored in double figures in four straight games prior to the loss against Kansas when he scored just six points on 3 of 7 shooting. Typically, Paige plays a decent offensive role attempting 10.7 shots per game, and West Virginia should have less of a problem getting him involved than it did against the Jayhawks.

Stephen F. Austin finished the season 27-5 and won the Southland Conference to get its March bid. The Lumberjacks are led by 6’4” senior forward Thomas Walkup. He averaged 17.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game this season and he had a monster game against Sam Houston on Mar 5 when he scored 37 points on 14 of 18 shooting while also dishing out five assists and grabbing eight rebounds. He shoots 59.8 percent from the floor and obviously plays a lot bigger than his 6’4” body. He is not much of a threat as a three-point shooter, but he is a threat getting out in transition and can force turnovers given his 2.5 blocks/steals per game this season.

Slide Geffrard Jr. was No. 2 on the team in rebounding at 5.9 per game while also ranking No. 3 in scoring with 13.4 points per game. The 6’5” forward scored in double figures in all but six SF Austin games this season.

SF Austin averages 81 points per game this season while shooting 48.4 percent from the field as a team and 36.8 percent from three-point range. The Lumberjacks are good from the free throw line too at 73 percent.
