The Virginia Tech Hokies are very good defensively in guarding the three-point area

BYU has won six of its past seven games and comes off a 77-64 win over the Pepperdine Waves as 13.5-point road favorites.  The Cougars have been struggling from beyond the arc in their past two games, shooting a combined 4-for-36 from the three-point area in that span.  Senior forward Noah Hartsock is still the team’s leading scorer, averaging 17.5 points per game, as he’s shooting 58.3 percent from the field and 82.5 percent from the charity stripe.  BYU is 1-5 ATS on the road this season.

The Cougars have had six players on their roster score 20-plus points this season, while forward Brandon Davies has tallied five double-doubles.  He scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed six rebounds in the team’s win over the Waves last time out.  BYU leads the West Coast Conference in scoring offense, while sitting fifth in scoring defense.  These two teams have met just once, with the Cougars capturing a 97-64 win on Dec. 29, 1967.

Virginia Tech takes a break from Atlantic Coast Conference play and comes off an impressive 47-45 win over the Virginia Cavaliers inside John Paul Jones Arena Sunday night as 7.5-point road underdogs.  The Hokies did a great job in limiting Cavaliers star forward Mike Scott in that contest, holding him to 10 points in 36 minutes.  The team has been great in defending the three-point line this season, ranking fourth in college basketball in allowing opponents to hit just 25.4 percent of their shots from beyond the arc.  Virginia Tech is 2-4 ATS at home this year.

The Hokies are led offensively by junior guard Erick Green, who comes in averaging 16.1 points and 3.2 assists per game.  He returned from a knee injury on Jan. 19 and had just one turnover against the North Carolina Tar Heels and Virginia Cavaliers.  Virginia Tech’s 47 points versus Virginia was its lowest point total for the program to ever walk away with a conference victory.  The team will be hosting its first ever game against a West Coast Conference team tonight inside Cassell Coliseum.

Bettors will likely back the Hokies due to their 4-1-1 ATS mark versus non-conference opponents, while the Cougars are 0-6 ATS versus ACC teams.
