UAB Blazers AT Georgia Bulldogs
December 3rd, 7:00 PM EST
Opening Line: Georgia -4
Current Line: Georgia -3
Opening Moneyline: UAB +145, Georgia -165
UAB enters tonights game with a 6-1 record. Georgia is 4-2. UAB is 6-1 ATS and 4-0 ATS when on the road. Georgia is 2-3 ATS and 1-3 ATS at home.
UAB is averaging 72.7 points per game and giving up 61.3, while Georgia is averaging 69.7 and giving up 69.2. Georgia has lost two key games to Temple and Notre Dame and beat the pushover teams (Manhattan, St. Louis, and Colorado). UAB has beaten Arkansas of note, and lost their only game to Arizona State.
UAB is led by 6’10” forward Cameron Moore, a junior, who averages 18.4 points per game, and also by 6’5″ guard Jamarr Sanders, a senior, who averages 15.3 points per game. Sanders is a high volume chucker, averaging 2.3 threes a game, but only shooting 34% from behind the arc Moore also leads the Blazers in rebounding, with 9.3 rebounds per game. Moore’s inside game is very efficient and he is 64.7% from the floor this year. UAB mostly sticks with their starters and four of their five starters average 31 or more minutes a game. Look for Georgia to try to get Moore into foul trouble, which will cripple UAB if they do.
Georgia sports a balanced attack with 4 players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Travis Leslie’s 17.3 points per game. Despite standing only 6’4″, Leslie averages 8.7 boards a game and 1.2 blocks a game, to go along with his 2.2 steals. He is a complete player and is efficient and effective on both ends of the court, though he does lack an outside shot. If he’s going to play at the next level he will have to work on his jumper. His backcourt mate 6’1″ Gerald Robinson is the second leading scorer for Georgia with 15.8 points per contest. Robinson is a decent three point shooter, hitting 38.1% on threes.
The backcourt matchup of shooting guards Leslie and Sanders will be the key one to watch tonight. If either player can get off and have a big night, as they both are capable of, it will go a long way towards winning the ball game. Both comprise nearly 25% of their teams respective offensive production and are counted upon heavily to put up points. Georgia is very falliable on offense against good defensive teams. In the loss to Temple they shot under 40% from the floor and hit only 2 of 11 threes. Simply getting a hand up on their guards is enough to ruffle them and cause misses, as none of their outside shooters are particularly deadly. Against Temple, Leslie, Robinson and the injured Trey Thompkins combined for 43 points, but the rest of the Bulldog team scored a measly 15 points. If UAB can keep the ball out of Leslie and Robinson’s hands the Bulldogs will have almost no chance at all to win the game.
