Portland State looks for a road win Monday night when meeting up with the Oregon Ducks in a non-conference game at Matthew Knight Arena. The Vikings are 5-3 on the season, posting a 3-0 record at home and 2-3 mark on the road, but both of those victories came on a neutral court. The program is in the middle of playing six out of seven games on the road. Picking up a victory against a Pac-12 Conference opponent would definitely be a confidence booster to the program, coming in with a 4-44 all-time record against such teams. Portland State is 2-2 ATS as a road underdog of 12.5 to 15 points.
The Vikings played the Ducks close last year at McArthur Court until going cold offensively over the last 10 minutes of the game. Portland State ended up shooting a season-low .296 from the field in a 68-49 loss on Dec. 5, 2010. The team is gaining a reputation of having some competent big men inside, as senior center Nate Lozeau and forward Chehales Tapscott have combined to average 27.0 points and 17.6 rebounds, while shooting 56.5 percent from the floor.
Oregon enters with a 5-2 record that includes a 4-0 home mark and comes in off a 74-70 win over the Fresno State Bulldogs as 12-point home favorites. The Ducks have opened the year with a 2-5 ATS record, including spread losses in their last three games. Offensively, the team is averaging 72.7 points per game and shoots 47.1 percent from the field. Oregon has tallied an even 3-3 ATS mark as a home favorite of 12.5 to 15 points, while the ‘over’ is on a 5-0 run in that particular situation.
The Ducks continue to get solid offensive production out of junior forward E.J. Singler, who scored 14 points on 5 of 9 shooting against the Bulldogs. Free throw shooting could become a major factor in this contest, as Oregon is hitting just 66.3 percent of its attempts from the charity strip, while Portland State is connecting at a 74.8 percent clip. The battle on the glass may also be a hindrance in the Ducks covering this spread, holding just a one rebound edge per game against opponents.
Bettors will likely back the Vikings due to their 22-15 ATS mark as a road underdog of 12.5 or more points, while the Ducks are 18-25 ATS at home.
