LAL
The L.A. Lakers took a while to hit stride, but now the team is playing like a typical LeBron James-led team. That is to say, it is winning, and a lot. The Lakers have won six of its past nine games to improve to 18-12 on the season, and everything seems to be falling into place for James’ Lakers. James is averaging 28 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game, while his top teammate has been Kyle Kuzma.
The second-year forward emerged as one of the steals of the 2017 draft, and he has been fairly strong for the Lakers in averaging just under 18 points per game while shooting 32 percent on his 5.7 threes per game.??The Lakers attempt 30.4 triples per contest while connecting on 35 percent. The overall field goal percentage is an impressive 47.4 for the team, and the Lakers average 113.1 points per game, ranking No. 9 in the Association. Its defense has improved but is still no better than middle-of-the-pack in holding teams to 110.9 per game.
BRK
The Brooklyn Nets are hanging tough at 13-18 without its leading scorer Caris LeVert. Brooklyn is 8-10 at home where it hosts the Lakers tonight on NBA TV. The Nets have won five straight games, with victories over the Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards, Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors.
Without LeVert available, D’Angelo Russell has really stepped it up. The former Ohio State guard is averaging 18 points, 3.8 rebounds and six assists per game while doing it all in just 29 minutes a night. Often playing alongside him is super-sub Spencer Dinwiddie, who should be in line for a big contract this summer. Dinwiddie is averaging 17.2 points and five assists per game and boasts the second-best PER on the Nets at 18.9. The owner of the best PER is big man Jarrett Allen.
Allen averages 12 points and eight rebounds per game while blocking 1.45 shots per night. While still somewhat raw, Allen is young and improving, and he could become the future anchor of the Nets as the team builds momentum in the East.
Brooklyn is finally in possession of its own draft picks again following the disastrous trade in 2012 that brought Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn while costing the team its entire future, figuratively. Brooklyn is winning on the basis of its hard work and sneaky talent, and this game should be a close affair as indicated by NBA oddsmakers setting the line just 2-points in favor of the visiting Lakers
