Dallas
The Mavs are trying to make another run at a championship this year, but things may really start falling into place this off season. Mark Cuban has been doing his best to lure Deron Williams to Dallas. Williams would more than replace Jason Kidd and breathe new life into Dallas’ hopes.
Then, if they can ever figure out how to properly utilize Lamar Odom and get a fire lit under his butt, anything could happen. The Mavs have the talent, and Vince Carter and Shawn Marion, while both well past their primes, are valuable bench contributors on a team whose experience could go a long ways this June.
I think everyone knows though, that the Mavs will go as far as Dirk Nowitzki can carry them. The 7 foot German hits such a wide variety of difficult shots, that it can be near impossible to stop him at times. If Dirk gets cooking, the Mavs can be very difficult to beat.
Dallas Betting Trends:
Dallas is 23-24 ATS this season and 9-4 ATS as an underdog. They are 11-11 ATS on the road and 5-3 ATS on Friday nights. They are 2-5 ATS vs Division opponents and 6-6 ATS off an upset loss as a favorite. They are 11-9 ATS vs teams with winning records.
San Antonio
The Spurs are about to sign Boris Diaw. While the move isn’t groundbreaking, Gregg Popovich may be able to breathe some life into Diaw’s out of shape body and get him producing again.
The Spurs have plenty of players who are producing though. Kawhi Leonard has been a pleasant surprise for the Spurs, and looks to be a true defensive stopper, in the mold of Bruce Bowen, with better offense. Tiago Splitter is developing, DeJuan Blair is still a monster on the board, and Duncan isn’t completely done yet. Tony Parker is having one of the best years of his career, and is still only 29.
The Spurs will have to continue to play their brand of suffocating defense through the playoffs to have any legit chance. They have the depth to push teams to the limit, and Stephen Jackson should make a big difference. He’s already played in San Antonio before, so this is really just a matter of re-establishing himself in a city he has already won a championship in.
Spurs Betting Trends:
San Antonio is 26-17 ATS this season and 18-13 ATS as a favorite. They are 15-7 ATS in home games and 8-4 ATS vs Division opponents. They are 14-8 ATS vs teams with winning records and 0-1 ATS vs teams with winning records in the second half of the season.
