The Cavs most recent win was an 89-77 victory over Boston last night. The Cavs got 24 points, seven rebounds and three blocks from LeBron James, and Kevin Love chipped in 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Impressively, Cleveland limited the Celtics to 32 percent shooting in the game while also holding a plus-5 edge on the boards. The Cavs really pounced on Boston in the second half, though, outscoring the C’s 29-15 in the third period to extend a six-point half time lead into an eight point lead entering the fourth quarter.
The Cavs are 11-1 at home this season, and will look to get its dozenth victory tonight. LeBron James and Kevin Love are more than compensation for the injured Kyrie Irving. Love still is not putting up “Minnesota Love” numbers but he is averaging 17.9 points and 10.9 rebounds while shooting 43.5 percent from the field and 36.9 percent from three-point range.
LBJ is seeing 36.7 minutes a night and averaging 26.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 6.3 assists while posting a team-high PER Of 27.1.
The Cavs are employing a nine-man rotation, with veterans Mo Williams and J.R. Smith both playing an instrumental role. The pair is averaging 24.1 points between them and Williams its shooting 35.1 percent from three, while Smith is good for 36.4 from behind the arc. The Cavs shoot 36 percent from three as a team and knock down nearly 10 per game.
The Thunder are 17-8 and have now won six straight games. The Thunder have knocked off the Jazz twice, Portland, Atlanta, Memphis and Sacramento in the streak. Last time out OKC knocked off the Trail Blazers 106-90 last night. Portland guards Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum combined to score 44 points on 15 of 38 shooting.
The Blazers were held to 34.8 percent shooting. The Thunder put four starters in double figures led by Kevin Durant’s 24 points on 8 of 14 shooting. OKC also got 41 points from its bench, led by Enes Kanter’s 12 and Dion Waiters’ 18 points.
Durant and Westbrook are combining to average 52.9 points per game while both posting PERs over 30. Serge Ibaka, Enes Kanter and Dion Waiters all average double figures, as well, with Kanter posting a PER Of 22.8. The Thunder are a good scoring team and now that it appears to be getting the defense on track this is a team that can make waves as most expected it to prior to the season. It was a slow start by Billy Donovan’s club, but OKC now appears to be on its way.
