Detroit Pistons vs. Boston Celtics
Tip off: 7:35 PM EST
Spread: BOS -9.5
Total: 183
M/L: BOS -600, CLE +450
Much to no one’s surprise, the Pistons have struggled so far this season. They put up only 79 points in an opening night loss to the Pacers, and gave up 105 to a poor Cavs team Wednesday night. It’s hard to expect things to get much better against a Boston team that even without Paul Pierce has strung together a good season thus far.
Ben Gordon went absolutely bonkers in the loss. He scored 25 points, hitting 4 threes, dished out 4 assists, and shot 19 field goal attempts. Still, his +/- of -13 speaks of how bad his teammates were, of course, not Gordon. He was the only thing working for the Pistons and they are going to have to get more from Greg Monroe, who failed to get to the free throw line the entire game and scored only 10 points to go with his unimpressive 7 boards.
Boston is 0-3, but they lost 2 of their 3 games to very good teams, and the last was the second night of a back to back and 3rd in 4 days game. They got Thursday off, but return tonight, to cap off a four game week. They lost Wednesday night to the Hornets when they gave up 97 points while scoring only 78 themselves. Rondo and Allen combiend for 28 points in the backcourt, but save Bass and Doolings’ combined 21 off the bench, no one else contributed enough. Garnett failed to get to the free throw line and shot 4 of 10 from the floor. That’s just not enough.

Key Matchup:
Ben Gordon vs. Ray Allen
In a lot of ways, these two guards are similar. Both went to UCONN, and both are deadly shooting two guards. Gordon is capable of scoring in a hurry, and put up 25 already this season for the Pistons, while Allen has had seasons in which he averaged more than 25. It’s hardly fair to compare the younger Gordon to the ageless Allen, but perhaps at some point he might taste some of the success that Allen has had. Allen leads the NBA all time in three point field goals made, and has to be considered the purest shooter ever in NBA history.
